I had seven adorable Silkies - five hens and two black roos - that were all lost to hawks over the past year.
I'm looking for a roo and a hen or two to keep him company. I have a very large pen where they will be kept.
I live in northern Ocean County, NJ, not far from Six Flags Great Adventure.
I lost my sweet Silkie rooster this past winter due to a respiratory illness. I have three Silkie hens that free range, and I would like a new guy to take care of them.
I live in Central New Jersey, close to I-195.
This is my 5 month old baby roo named Bandit. He's black with gold neck feathers. Is he a cross? If he is, I can't tell what he's crossed with. He's the first Silkie we ever owned. My niece's boyfriend found the little guy in their front yard when he was only a week old, and we adopted him...
******* got through the netting and attacked...but luckily, my two roos attacked the thing, and I got out there before the thing did serious damage to her.
She has a small cut on her comb, and the thing ripped off some of her back feathers, but she's OK, thank God.
She's now resting...
This guy is a people roo. Every time he spots someone, he crows, because he wants us to come over and hang out with him. When we leave? He starts up again. "Please come back!"
Cuckoo roo, but I love him. His pic is in the rooster thread.
Hi, haven't posted in a while. We bought 8 new Leghorns at the end of Sept. and now only have 6. Lost both to a Cooper's hawk.
I had problems with a hawk before; that one might have been a red-tail. That one had to have migrated. I haven't seen it in a long time. This thing was half the...
I have, well, had three young chickns: two pullets and a six week old roo.
My husband decided to put them in the coop today.
One Golden Comet pullet is dead.
I rescued the other Golden Comet pullet before the bigger hens made mincemeat out of her. This was before we left for a few hours...
These are the guys who do back and forth crows [/img]

Bandit, AKA Mohawk Man:
My whole flock:
Hi,
I'm in love with this breed (I have four Buff Orps). I would like only one or two, however, as I already have a flock of 25 (with two roos).
Thanks, Lisa
They're both technically cockerels... anyway:
My 6 week old black Silkie roo is too small for the pen, so we have him in a huge box in our basement.
He can hear the big Jersey Giant roo crowing from the pen (he's a loud mofo), and responds!
He just started crowing, so it's really neat to hear.
After the tragedy last week (lost a Golden Comet to a hawk), we reinforced the webbing over the pen until it looked like a soccer net.
The hawk has come around twice since, but got tangled in the web, started to choke, and flew away.
It'll try a few more times before giving up and going back...
That's what I like to call them.
Tiny the Roo and Fluffy the Silver Wyandotte.

Tiny again.

Hi! Glad to be here!
I first raised chickens with my then fiance 15 years ago, only to stop when foxes and coons got our flock. We got married and are raising a family, and last year, we promised our kids chickens of their own.
My chickens are 2 to 2 1/2 months old, 22 hens and a big Jersey...
Hello everyone,
I'm not new to chicken raising, but I had a 15 year gap inbetween raising flocks until my husband and I delved back into chicken raising this spring.
I have a flock of 23, that used to be 26, thanks to a hawk.
The hawk killed two hens before we put webbing above the open run...
