AAgh. . so here in PA we had some pretty rough rain and wind from the Hurricane. .SO, i left the chickens in their coop till yesterday afternoon around 4 when the storm had subsided. .

So i started my flock this year, 13 hens and a rooster.. I couldn't be more happy. .they're SOOO happy, healthy, and SOOO SPOILED!!! anyway. .they free range around the yard, (over an acre) and i just built/made flower beds all around the house. . i put down mulch and it looks great. .HOWEVER...
So i just built my coop. .a nice 8x8x10 for 6 laying hens and a rooster. . I'm going to build caged run for when i'm not around (16x8) that is attached to the coop. .

I built my nesting boxes 19 in. off the gound. .is this ok?
Do they need a pirch or walkway to walk on in front of the boxes, or will they jump/fly up into them??
I think i may build a walkway that goes along the front of the boxes, but it may act as a roost too, so i don't want it directly in...
