    7 weeks old muscovys...sex??

I I have three seven week old Muscovy's that are all the same exact size so I have nothing to compare them to for sexing. They all have the same feather development and stature. One is more of a loner but they all make a chirping noise as they walk around when they're content. Is...

Muscovy duckligs...leave them with mom or take then inside????

I had three hatch yesterday morning and left them with their mom overnight. I live in southern California and the weather is a little bit colder then normal right now...but the low is still only 50. She didn't get off them until this afternoon and now she just wants to roam the yard with them...

Hen with spurs "attacking" all my other hens

I have what looks like a penciled hamburg who has grown spurs. She always seemed kind of wild and never joined the rest of the flock. She climbs/flies up the wisteria and lays her eggs on the lattice over our patio where it's impossible to get them. My boyfriend just noticed the spurs a few days...

Fowl pox and permanent reduction in egg production??

Will fowl pox permanently affect their egg production? My chickens all got fowl pox a month ago and more then half the flock was 5 months and hadn't started laying? I haven't had an egg since the time they got sick which seems realistic since I read they usually don't recover for 3-5 weeks. I'm...

Are we sure this polish is a rooster??

I recently put up some pictures asking the gender of my polish and it a few people said both my silver laced were roosters. I know one is but I'm still not so sure about the other. Someone mentioned you can tell since the feather on the top of their head look more unruly. I've been keeping an...

unhealthy looking hen...black spots in comb

My flock is pretty split up right now. I have ten that free range and 7 that are younger and stay in a coop. Of the ten that free range, 5 roost in a coop and 5 roost in my wisteria. The ones that roost in the coop are starting to look less healthy, but they're also a lot older then the others...

    Polish

What's the best way to distinguish a Polish rooster...besides crowing. The one I originally thought was a rooster stood much more erect and was a significant amount larger, with thicker legs. Now I'm noticing another one that is much redder in the face(the others aren't at all) and has already...

    Norwegian Jaerhon>>>>Clipping wings????

My Norwegian Jaerhon's are a bit too flighty for my taste. They're only a few months old and they're already getting into everything. I have planter boxes for my garden that I wrap w/ chicken wire and I just watched them fly right over the four feet and start grazing. It's never been an issue w/...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte....HE???

I've asked about this one before but he's a little bigger now. I'm guessing boy but I'm not sure. He's significantly bigger(hard to tell in the picture though) than the others his age except the RIR which is most definitely a boy. They're all different breeds so I'm not sure if the breed is...

Polish ...any specific clues as to what to look for in telling the gender?

I've been pretty good about sexing my chicks early on but I'm stumped with the polish. Is there anything that I can look?

    2 boys??

I'm 99.9999% sure the RIR is a rooster. What about the black one...and what is he/she? I was told Wyandotte before, is that still the consensus? Also what about the cream one and the other with the orangish/red head? Thank you!!!!

Help!!! 1.5 week old chick w/ abscess??? on neck

I checked my chicks this morning and one of the frizzle cochins looked dead. It was laying down w/ it's head bent completely under his body to where you couldn't see it..,my first thought was that is somehow broke it's neck. I had to help it up before it even moved and then it stumbled around. I...

    Polish and Frizzles

~~I knew there were some frizzles at the feed store and I've always loved them, so I asked my boyfriend to pick me up two or three. Instead, he got nine, most of which are polish which I'm super excited about. Anyway, I know this isn't a breed question, and they're too young for gender, but I...

    Rooster

My RIR is standing a lot more erect and it's tail feathers are coming in a lot slower then the rest of the bunch I have. Granted it's a mixture of hens so maybe they're just growing at different rates but I have a bad feeling... What do you think?

    Breed??

[/IMG][/IMG] Not the best pictures but I'll get more when they're bigger. Anyone have any ideas as to what breed? I know two of them are Norwegian Jaeron. They're about 3 weeks old. Thank you!!

    silkie??

I'm not exactly sure what she is. The choice of fathers is a silkie or a Cochin and the mother could be anything. They were all "fancy" breeds. Next time I'll have to document what the eggs they hatched out of look like. She's about a year and a half and had black skin. She has four "toes" on...

    Possum living in my yard....

I have 2 coops on either side of my yard...one with 3 hens and the other with 4 pullets and a cockerel...and then a possum living in the lattice with my wisteria. The other night I saw the possum(it's on the smaller side) on the other side of the fence, peaking over at the pullets. I wanted to...

Dad was a silkie...not sure about mom...boy or girl??

I have five pullets, some with a silkie dad and some with a cochin dad...two many types of hens as choices for moms to mention. Anyway, my favorite one is also the largest, which made me think it was a boy from the start. The one in question started off all grey and when I put them in the run I...
