Hi,
I would like to hatch some chicken eggs this Spring, preferably in March. I live in Northern NH and would travel if need be. I was hoping to not have to buy from a hatchery.
I have ordered day old chicks in the past and all have done well. Just want to purchase the eggs from someone here in...
I purchased the square(ish) plastic indoor nest boxes from Fleming Outdoors. The girls are getting ready to lay. As I am a newbie to this...those boxes sure do look small now and the perch is thin and narrow. Will they actually go into that small of an area? Maybe my girls are fat ;-). I like...
My flock is 18 weeks old. I really didn't think that the roo would be so male yet. The hens haven't even started laying. So, is this the norm at this age? He is really lov'n the gals. Thanks....
This has probably been addressed but I'd like some input so I don't have to search...How do you feel about the homemade cookie tin water heater which you can set plastic or metal waterers on. Have any of you made one? I live in NH and it gets pretty darn cold up this way. Also, my husband is...
I bought a 50# bag of Nutrena*Country Feeds* meal by accident. I am new to this and went in to buy Layer16 crumbles.
I wanted crumbles because the flock was on the starter/grower crumbles and wanted to transition to pellets on the next bag of Layer16.
So, should I just forget about this bag...
At what age can I start to feed a mix of BOSS with cracked corn and oats as a scratch feed. Also, is it the hulled seed or with shells(BOSS).
Thanks. New to this.
My chicks are now 10 weeks and I have been feeding chick starter by Manna Pro. I know it is expensive but it is what I wanted and a quality I liked. I just found out that they don't have a starter/ grower. I don't know what would be a good next step. I think of Purena as a dog food that I...
Building our coop and just bought the 1/4in hardwood plywood for the inside. I'd like some input as to what to use for the inside...paint or stain to protect the plywood and be healthy for the chickens. Thanks. Oh, and we live in NH so we have ALL kinds of weather...meaning: cold, heat, humidity.
We didn't have a hard winter at all so the ground near the house has thawed. I have a bed with lots of Spring bulbs. You can guess what is happening. I see tunnels all around in the bed. I would assume that the bulbs are being eaten. When planting I put red pepper flakes but that was 5 years...
Looking to become a chicken person this Spring...feel like I am one already though.
Is there an easy way to find a list of breeders in NH/ME? Not sure what I want for chickens yet, but I'd like a mixture of 8. I'd prefer not to purchase from a hatchery. I know there are pros and cons either way...
I'm planning on getting chicks this Spring for the first time. I would like a variety. Being in the dog business...grooming and retail, I have an issue with the big box stores. So, I kinda feel the same about the big hatcheries. So, my questions are...I want a variety of breeds so to get them...
I don't have peeps yet, plan to this spring. I like to research a subject before starting something new. I am not new to animals. I am a retired pet groomer of 26yrs. Worked in pet stores selling fresh and saltwater setups, raised and trained parrots(prefer big birds). As my boys were...
Help me decide please... I would like to have about 8 chickens. I'm not sure about getting a roo to go with the flock.
Right now I am not interested in hatching eggs and would rather not get a breed that is pron to brooding. I live in NH and I plan on getting the chickens through the mail...
I want to find out who is out there near Plymouth, NH. I plan on getting chickens this spring and want to talk to locals since they will be dealing with pretty much the same things I will be. I have been to three fairs and no chickens or chicken people to talk to. I'd like to get about 8...
Hi,
Finally got my husband to say yes to chickens. I hope to get started this coming Spring so I will be reading on this forum often.
We do have a problem with wild animals so that was the main reason for not getting them sooner. The neighbor has had a bear ripe open her coop the last two...
