Hi all,
I recently go two lgd pups at the ages of 5 and 9 months. The 9 month old dog had been around poultry his entire life and was fine with them. The younger one had only been around them for a few weeks before coming to me. I built an enclosure for them, where they would be able to see...
12 weeks old. I thought male, but there hasn't been any further development. Hopefully, others who have has this breed (bantam cochin, I think you call it) can just confirm it is a male.
The colours aren't true in the photo. The comb is very pale and the wattles aren't as big as this photo...
After having read and read and squinted and drooled over the egg swap chains on here, I was wondering if there are any other UK-ers who'd like to take part in one? If there are enough of us, maybe we could set one in motion.
Does anyone use a breeding program for keeping track of offspring, genetics and for line breeding? What would you recommend using?
I currently use Excel, but wondering if there is something better out there or an easier way of doing it.
I'm hoping someone on here will know exactly what I mean and may even have saved the thread... I've been searching for weeks and can't find it...
About 6-12 months ago, someone, a frequent visitor, created a thread about their chicken tractors. The main image was their avataer. It looked like...
We recently cut down some trees behind the building used as a coop. The next day, there was loads of condensation on the ceiling.
I tried making the vents bigger, but it's still getting really wet, whereas it was dryer before, with less ventilation. I'm at a bit of a loss.
There is currently...
I have a 5 week old chick who is constantly cheeping. He's not cold, but hungry. If I hold food in front of him, he'll peck at it. If I put it down, he doesn't. His crop is always empty. Not sure what to do!
I have a run made of heras fencing panels. We will be putting some bird netting over the top.
Would coiling barbed wire around the top edge of the fence work for preventing foxes climbing over?
Before anyone suggests electic fencing, that's out of the question. With the number of 'visitors'...
Found these tracks near where I keep my chickens. I have a sneaky suspicion of what caused them, but I have no tracking skills. What do you think it is?
And some scat
I have seen many people do staggered hatches in cabinet incubators. They seem to have a tray at the bottom where they move the eggs to for hatching. I have recently bought a cabinet incubator and placed a thermometer/hygrometer in both the top and the bottom. The top seems a bit warmer, but the...
I'm collating some addresses for work and I'm just wondering what the difference is between two such addresses:
351 North Arrowhead Avenue
San Bernardino, CA. 92415-0220
351 North Arrowhead Avenue
San Bernardino, CA. 92415-0245
What are those last few digits for? If I sent a letter to the...
I've been scouring the internet, looking for a good wildlife cam, after reading about so many of you with one. I thought I'd be able to see what sort of critters hang about the coop when we're not there and, most importantly, what sort of humans!
I'm completely new at this sort of thing...
This chick was hatched out from white araucana parents. Is it a white?
This one is from blue araucana parents, so I'd imagine it's a splash. However, after seeing the one above... I'm confused. My white araucana looked just like this as a chick.
Then there's this one. Its parent are...
... knowing they won't all develop. What do you do if they all develop?
I'm kinda stuck. I have 86 eggs going into lockdown on Wednesday/Thursday, but there isn't enough space for the chicks to hatch out, not to mention the couple that are stacked on top of the others.
I know there are lots...
I have a broody hen who was sat on four eggs. About 3 hours after the last check on her, she was missing an egg. The other three are covered in yolk, there is a wet patch on the ground.
The first mystery is: what happened?
The second is: what do I do about the yolk-covered eggs?
They all...
I'm building up a number of eggs to set on Saturday. So far the count is:
3 buff sebrights
6 citron sebrights
2 silver duckwing bantam araucanas
8 black/blue araucanas
4 white araucanas
7 black araucanas
7 black/red araucanas
6 pyle dutch bantams
6 quail barbu d'anvers
And more on the way...
I've read a few posts on here where people have tried washing v not washing. This is a bit of a variation on the theme.
I wondered... has anyone tried washing eggs AFTER they've checked they're developping? Say at day 4-7? And what effect, if any did it have on the hatch rate?
