I miss identified the vent on my first chicks, it looks like that is quite a bit lower than the tail in the picture, I think it is the dried "umbilical cord" (I have no idea what the actual name is in chickens) you have picked. Look above that for another hole, it is probably not pasty.
I came on here looking for info about alfalfa pellets. I bought some to give them some cheap greens for the winter and then got to wondering how good of idea it was. I also have ducks and just dumped some today in water for them.
So, thanks
Mine didn't eat calendula either. I let them have access to the garden after we were done with it. They never did eat the calendula, pretty much everything else was eventually eaten. Ours really liked tomatoes and watermelon. They also haven't been interested in carrots no matter how I give...
Update:
Appearently they have been laying a while. This morning I found 15 more eggs, 11 in a little pile right next to the house under our rake and behind a toy of the boys, one right under our back porch, one kind of exposed next to a tree, and two close to that but not in the pile.
None of...
We have 6 barred rock pullets and two sussex pullets that are a month younger that have a portable coop, but lately we have just let them freerange during the day. Tonight my husband went to the back of our large yard near an old rabbit cage or coop that was from the previous renters and there...
I am not trying to be impatient
I am just wondering if we could save the feed money and have chickens for roasting that are just right for a family dinner for us. I would do some later for bigger pieces like for frying and such.
I am also wondering about composting the feathers. Do you just throw them in your regular pile whole? I would think they would be like a brown material, so you would need some green in there too?
I am wondering about ordering Red Bro Broilers from JM. I am wondering if there is a growing curve or some reason that we shouldn't process some of the biggest like at 5 or 6 weeks.
We by fryers from Shelton's that are like 3 pounds and those do pretty well for our family. I also make...
Did you ever get an email back about this? I am really curious.
I didn't read the snopes but I have been told it is actually because people were slipping on the rice and bird seed is different things so not as slick.
Tomorrow the local feedstore guy is getting an assortment of chicks from Privett, it says on the website there will be some meat birds in the mix. I was wondering if anyone has a picture of what they might look like, the guy there is no help at all. Privett has pictures, but it is hard to...
I bought both of these chicks as Speckled Sussex. The larger, lighter one I believe is a Buttercup. I purchased 11 straight run on May 1st. I purchased the darker one (five total pullets) on May 7th.
What do you think?
My feedstore guy where I bought the first set isn't much help. He...
