    Who is the egg robber?

I would love to, but funds are not available. I've moved one broody girl to the garage, the one who has had the eggs stolen. The other girl won't budge. Time will tell!

    Who is the egg robber?

The goats have no access to the nesting boxes. While they are quite mischievous, it's not them! I don't think it's a predator either. My money is on an incredibly smart hen with sticky wings :-)

    Who is the egg robber?

Well, I guess that is a possibility, but I've never seen one. Mice, yes...rats, no. The nesting boxes are over 3' off the ground and there's no lip. The eggs got moved up an over a 5' wall or gate to get into the other side of the shed where I found them. The eggs literally must be carried...

    Who is the egg robber?

I have two broody hens in my small goat shed. Their nesting boxes are on the storage side of the shed, where the goats and alpaca can't reach, but the hens can fly over the gate. Twice now I have found eggs from one of the nesting boxes on the floor on the animal-only side of the shed and...

I'm in Boulder County. Here he is after a red-tailed hawk attack. He's making sure everyone is safe inside.

I agree with two things - Valbazen was easier dosing orally (my chickens don't gobble anything up when I'm holding them) but it didn't work on the aggressive tapeworm load this year, at least with three of my hens. I just dosed them with Zimectrin Gold. Pea-sized dose on my finger, opened each...

I have a gorgeous grey rooster, 4 months old, who sounds the alert to my 20 hens when a red-tailed hawk is in the barnyard and then stays out to stand his ground. He is an awesome protector. I don't necessarily need to give him away, but I would to the right home.

Welcome! I live a few miles from you on the way to Louisville. I've got 13 hens, two chicks, a goat and a pot-bellied pig. Be glad to share my experiences of getting my flock up and running if you want some help!

    She just stands quietly

I've got an adopted hen of unknown age. I've had her about a year. She's lower on the pecking order in my flock of 13 hens, she gets a few extra head pecks from the others resulting in a slight loss of feathers, but nothing huge. She's never been very social, often preferring to be by...

How do I crate a mean rooster?

Thanks! That's what I needed to know!

How do I crate a mean rooster?

I have a rooster problem. I have nine hens over a year old. Then a rooster and three hens that are about 9 mos. old. The rooster has begun to assert his domination over the flock. All is mostly well. Except for one older hen. And it's not just the rooster. When he goes after her, many of...

    Chickens and snow

Well, I let mine out every day, above zero or not. They figure out how cold it is quickly. Some brave the weather, some head back into the coop. However, maybe you need to reinforce your coop a bit. They should always have a place that is protected from the cold wind and the wet. Chickens...

Has anyone ordered Marans or other chicks from My Pet Chicken?

I have three Black Copper Marans from My Pet Chicken. They arrived happy and healthy on August 9th. Their legs are currently "lightly" feathered. They're funny, never stray far from each other, and have accepted their place in the bottom of my 14 chicken pecking order with grace. I have no...

    Introducing one hen

I just adopted a hen today from a neighbor. She was giving Sofia away because she thought Sofia was lonely. She's been by herself for a while. This is only night one, but she refused to go to either of the roost areas - she's all by herself on a stick roost in the run. I tried to put her on...

    Where to put the feeder??

I have some decisions to make about an upgrade to our coop/run/goat shed and I have a question about where feeders should be placed. I have an established chicken coop/run for my nine hens and one pullet. I added four chicks three weeks ago to the family and they've integrated nicely. They...

My chick is breaking all the rules...

Thanks again everyone! I just got five live chicks that had been on order since January (!) and put them under another broody hen. She rejected all but one. She is the polar opposite of my other mama hen and hasn't let that poor baby out of the nesting box for over a week. It takes all...

Momma Hen Ignores Chick Feed For Her Baby

Thanks! We don't have anything called flockraiser at my local feed store, but I'll look into it. I've never used oyster shell before, but I think they have it.

Momma Hen Ignores Chick Feed For Her Baby

Hi All, I've got a mama hen with a week old foster chick. She's not a particularly good mama (first time) but she's learning Anyway, even though I put chick feed close to the nesting box where she and the baby are camped out, she takes the little one out into the run and is showing her how...

My chick is breaking all the rules...

Thanks for the input Ridgerunner. I've gotten all of my limited chicken knowledge from the good people on this forum. While I"m a bit disappointed that I don't have a specially talented and gifted chick I'm glad I'm not doing the wrong thing and I'm looking forward to integrating my new...

My chick is breaking all the rules...

Little Liberty was hatched in one of the nesting boxes on the 4th of July. (My meanest hen Maude went broody so I got six fertilized eggs for her.) Unfortunately, Liberty is an only child. I decided my parenting style this time around would be "less is best". But since the nine hens have...
