    Pecking eggs

You need to find a feed store or farm store that sells ceramic eggs to leave in the nest. They look very real. My inlaws keep harvesting the fake egg when we are on vacation. They are solid.

Funky Eggs/Anyone got an idea why one of my ladies lays these funky shape eggs?

I have a Welsummer that has done the torpedo eggs, as we call them, since starting to relay after her first molt. How long has this been going on? It's a nice big egg though!

    Bleeding Chick!

Wash the chick to remove the blood color. Red lamp if possible. Cornstarch is fine. Blue Kote will help cover the color if you have it.

Our story is in this week's newspaper :)

My five hens are now a year and a half old. I had the same problem convincing my hubby...I had to build my own coop because he would not support the endeavor! However, he loves our girls now and the eggs are fantastic. I raised 10 chicks and only one turned out to be a roo. Rehomed him...

Is sitting in the nesting box for over 5 hours to lay an egg a little too long?

I agree with the broodiness. Is she growling at you or acting different?

    My Welsummer is still laying

Four of my 5 hens, a Wheaten Maran, an OE, and 2 EEs, have stopped laying with a molt and colder weather here in GA, but my Welsummer is still laying every other day. I read from the standard that the Welsummer hens lay @160 a year...so I guess that's right but I'm surprised that she is still...

    Silkie chick with deformed beak

I raised 10 chicks and 3 had beak deformities. I worried about them incessantly, even thought they all ate and grew just fine. When they were older and put into a small coop, their beaks got even worse. Still, they grew fine. I moved them into an even larger coop and put cinder blocks into...

    Broken Toe

Do nothing if it doesn't seem to affect him. I have a hen with a broken toe for over a year and she is fine but looks funny!

    Buff has a broken toe...

My OE game hen has a broken toe (healed) for over a year and she is fine. Watch for infection until it heals, but they are very adaptable and will do fine with a healed broken toe!

i think my hen is sick!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She sounds broody. I was worried like this when my Maran did the same thing. I could even push her off the nest and she would lie face down like she was paralyzed. I came to this forum for help and watched the Youtube movies and that was the same behavior. The only hard part was breaking the...

Getting 3 chickens with the new house - help!

I have 5 hens and only feed and water in the run. It keeps my hen house, a converted doll house my daughters outgrew, cleaner. We keep the hen house door open to the run in the summer and most of the winter except with temperatures below 40...the house is small. Leave food so they can free...

How do you store your poultry feed?

I keep everything for my 5 hens in a big Rubbermaid trash can with a lid next to the run. The bag of feed, scoop, bag of DE, Oyster shell bag, grit, all goes into the trash can. No troubles in over a year, and nothing has been able to chew through. It is outside too.

    Roo Attacked! (With Nasty Pictures!)

The green under the skin looks like blood to me. I am a human wound physician and that's what it looks like right now. Infection setting in this soon is unusual.

    Scabs On Bottom of Feet?

All of my little flock of five hens have had this recently, I discovered, about two months ago. I unroofed several of these scabs, without any pus or purulence noted. This made me think that I was performing unnecessary surgery on my hens. I am a wound care physician, and I am not a...

    copper maran - no eggs!

My Wheaten Maran is the most broody of my hens and by far the lowest in productivity. I'd tell you to still be patient. Does she seem broody at all? Nesting a lot? Mine nested for 2 months and puffed up and growled at me until we got more of her dark brown eggs. Sometimes with marans you...
