I have three Roos that are not meat birds, Americana,brahma crosse, they are approx 8-10 weeks old. Not sure how much longer the neighbour will put up with roosters I'm not supposed to have..( city bylaw) . What do you think if I butchered them at 14 weeks.. . Would they not be good? I'm new at...
well it is the 4th day with the chickies.. 4 are doing great, and i have been reading that it would be ok to bring them out side.. bit windy for them today maybe tomorrow , supposed to get up to 23c take them in to my veg bed and let them peck around.
as for the two little guys they worry me...

some one on the other post i have said they may all be EE's.. but i thought EE's had grey legs and only one (the one having difficulty walking) has grey legs... could possibly i be looking at 3 different breeds> the two carmel coloured and the 2 white and black?? and then the one EE???
awww dang.. i have so much of the shredder paper.. wonder is you mix it with teh leaves or hay.. just to make it go farther>> or may be put the paper first thent eh hay or what ever ,, jus to be more absorbent??? worth a try
oh . i forgot .. my son is in grade 3 he is in a 3/4 split class. his teacher does tis experiment pretty much every year. gets eggs and opens on every few days to show the kids the developement(kinda distrubing yet cool to see) and then hatches the rest out . great eduacational learnign...
sortof walking alright. well on one foot any way. she kinds hobbles. foot hock foot hock. if you hold her in your hand she stands on both feet but you can feel that she is not putting any weight on the one foot. and she will stand on one leg holding the other out to the side. it is weird.

what about grass clippings mixed with leaves??? i packed the box with a 2" layer of grass clippigns first , then some crushed dry leaves.. the leaves seemed to slide a bit more and my one chick who has a hard time anyway being surefooted seems to like the grass better. seh is starting to walk...

thanks all for your help.. americana is what they are.. or EE's a as you said.. took her out to the yard yesterday and the whole bunch had great fun in their movable pen. put them on a freshly dug row with new compost..yum!
any way she is walking a littel better. seems to favor on leg though ...
they re now two weeks old. geting alot of feathers.. look abit like awkward teens! ahhahahha
any way will post some more recent pics to help any out who wish to help me figure out the breed of these little gals(i hope their all gals! )

it is almost like i need to put leg braces on the one" tiger" is her/his/.. name.. her toes are straight the bubly seems to be gone from teh breathing.. she getss around quite wel on her hocks but it is making sores on her little.. um.. i want to say knees but i'm sure that is not right. seh...
i put on to my chicks toes the pipe cleaner bent into a w shape. taped around the toes. this did help.
she had crocked toes from birth.only on one foot.. teh other with severely crooked toes died last weekend. i think it was a combination of problem.
any who the one that is living still doesn't...
well one of them died over the weekend. so sad but i think i knew it was going to happen so not so much of a shock,
the other is eating and drinking and i put booties on her so the toes are straight but the ankle is turned down....still walking on her hocks.
um.. giving her vitamins everyday and...
