Yes, Sussex.. 5 years ago I started telling his story. I have never had such a joyous bunch . I was so very sad when we lost the last Lady. She was our favorite, and the Biggest Little Roosters favorite too.
Hey Haulin! What brings you out of hiding? LOL
Over the Rainbow Bridge was a beautiful place with plentiful bugs and sunshine. There were no predators. The grass was always green, and there were fields of grains and corn. There were never-ending watermelon plants.
Because there were no predators, the Biggest Little Rooster was no longer...
Thanks for the help! I think you are right about the first two. I never heard of Anconas, but when I looked them up, the pictures do look the same.
I'll have to get a more recent picture of the yellow one. The chicks belong to my daughter, soo I am not sure if the big yellow one is really big...
We are Mystery, "rare breed" chicks from Meyer hatchery. Rare breed could be just about anything.
Chick 1:
Chick 2:
And Chick 3, who is either Gigantic, or the others are midgets:
Most definately some hens will develope faster than others. I had a hatch of bantams, and the littlest one had very red wattles and comb long before the others. Judging by that, you would have guessed it was a boy. But other than the red comb, she just kinda looked like a girl. Everyone here...
I think Sandy is a boy for sure. Milly looks like a Milton, and Rose looks like a Roger. Brave Heart, the blue sex link and Tilly look like girls. Tilly loks like a girl with attitude LOL
But hey, I am not good at this. You could possibly flip a coin and be more accurate than I.
I don't know a lot about guessing sex- it's all still a guess for me. At 3 weeks though, the little wattles on chick # 1 seem boyishly red and developed. I can't see chick # 2 well enough to see if they are approximately the same size and redness. I also do not know if coloring determines sex...
By " beat up", goldensparrow means.. roosters like to mate a LOT, and if there is not enough hens to keep him busy, the hens back will lose feathers and can get raw from the process. The best ratios is one rooster to 10 hens
The dark one definately looks to be a boy. The white one might be...
I have a picture of the comb- not the best picture, but I think you might be right in guessing buttercup.
It's got that double row comb, or so it seems.
Now we just need to figure out chick #1
I found my bantams to be extremely delightful to have. They were very entertaining, and much easier to hold because of their size.
They are just as easy to raise as regular sized birds- they just eat less and need a little less space. Everything else would be the same.
As far as getting along...
Our babies seemed to do that also- every time I checked on them during the day,, they were napping. But really it would be a 3 minute nap, then up and running. And they had parties going all night long. They would be peeping so loud, like they were distressed, which got me adjusting th heat...
We had several hatches from our extra broody bantams. It was approximately 5-6 weeks when the mommas had enough. But the babies were ready to fend for themselves. They had almost had enough of all the mothering aslo. But, It was so sad, in a sense- the mommas ( we had 4 sharing sitting and baby...
I think y'all could be right about the buttercp. I am trying to get my daughter to send a picture of the comb- I don't know if it too young yet to tell what kind of comb it has but LOL.. I'm not all that knowlegable, which is why I am asking here.
I sure hope the first one isn't a marans. I...
It is actually possible that one could be an EE- she ordered 3 , and has 2 that look exactly like the 2 I got.
But, being they messed up my order big time, I'd be more inclined to think they shorted her 1 EE ( They sent me 2 buff orps in place of the other 2 easter eggers I...
