    I use an old snow brush from the car to clean my coop -- a brush that is a little past its prime for snow removal. Works great! My dad, who grew up during the Depression and never throws anything away, suggested it. Great idea!

    this is how I did it. There is an 8" gap from the top of the roost to the board. I figure on slipping a wisk broom in and yanking out the poo & shavings into a box for compost.

    thanks Chirpy! Yes, I have covered the inside of the windows and the rear vent with hardware cloth. I am also using the screens that came with the windows to keep out the insects.

    I used a 19x31 Hopper type window and reversed the window to open out to prevent rain. I like the fact I can open/close the windows without going into the coop.

    what kind of paint is safe for coop

    TSC has a paint made by Valspar called Home & Ranch that says its non toxic/safe to use around livestock. I just painted mine using the brilliant red & white, looks great!
