    sick or injured chicken

Hi, went out yesterday to stay overnight with friends and really expected her to be dead this morning but she seems to be a bit brighter, she has been wormed, treated for mites recently and treated for coccidiosis in case they all had it. They are all very spoilt and get fed very well. Her...

    Very upset female Mallard

I have the same problem, I am just thinking now with your first reply that could be the same with my drake. He used to be so friendly but now I cant even go near him, he puts his head down, fluffs his wings up and when he gets hold of you, he wont let go. He did have a chicken friend but she...

What are you using for a duck waterer?

they do need water containers that are deep so they can get their beaks into them, I do use a bucket as well and because they try and bath in it (even though they have a pool) they knock it over so if you put a heavy stone at the bottom, it should do the trick.

Night time water required for Ducks?

I leave water with my ducks at night. They drink a lot of water and during the day I leave bowls of water all over the place so that wherever they go, there is water for them. They drink a lot more than chickens and two of my drakes nest with the chickens so I make sure there is a deep enough...

    Mean Roeon

If the ducks are female that he is bothering, it sounds like he is mating because that is what they do. One of my drakes continually gives one of the others a hard time and it looks like he is trying to mate as well. Unfortunately drakes arent very kind when mating. Re underweight, they may...

    feral drake

I still need help with my drake. He has gotten even worse, I cant go into his nightly pen now as he gets so aggresive so I just have to put the food and water outside but not locking him up at night makes me worry about foxes. Does anyone have any suggestions about whether a partner drake...

    cranky duck

I have 3 muscovy drakes, two of which are great friends but one of these ducks picks on the third one. After awhile I just had to keep the two permanently separated from him. This duck used to be quite a friendly duck and used to follow me around and sit outside the back door waiting for me...

Post here if you DON'T wash clean-looking eggs

I never wash my eggs either. I heard once that if you wash them, it shortens their life span and I would like to believe that so there's my poor and far fetched excuse.

    red mites

I lost another chicken last night, she was perfectly fine yesterday but this morning she was dead. On close inspection through her feathers I saw mites. I am now in the process of obtaining treatment for the rest of them and cleaning their nesting boxes. On asking my vet if the mites would be...

    dying chickens

On a sad note my chicken died during the night which was expected. I have read a fair bit of info about mites since your post but I dont think that is the problem. My chickens choose to sit in the nesting boxes rather than roost, being ex battery hens I dont think they knew how to fly and have...

    dying chickens

Thank you very much for your reply. I feed my chickens "laying mash" which is bagged that I get from the local produce store. I also give them pasta, rice with cooked frozen vegetables and other bits and pieces from the fridge (leftovers). I never feed them anything that is off, citrus or...

    Ducks Getting Aggressive?

yes they will get agressive if she is in a situation where she is mating because the eggs are fertile and she will instintively protect them. I would get a male muscovy to be safe as I have been in the same situation.

    dead hen, very confused

Hi Dave, I am having the same problem with my chicken at the moment and has also been the case with 2 others recently and over the years. I have a feeling that if she was getting picked on, she may have gone into some kind of shock as they do frighten easily and just didnt have the strength to...
