I ended up changing the pine shavings I was using, and things got better very fast, I had been using the fine, small shavings and I think that was the culprit! I thought they would be softer, and nicer for the littles but I think I was wrong.
Thank you so much for your input. I did give her some time and she has made a full recovery. She must have had a leg injury of some kind. She's getting around just fine now, but she is very spoiled! Haha
This handsome guy is a Swedish Flower Roo, a rare breed which has only been in the US since 2010. They are well adapted to the cold, and non-aggressive. I would like to find him a home, not a soup pot. He's very sweet and extremely handsome, as you can see. He was hatched June 20, 2014. I live...
I have eight 12 week old Swedish Flower hens and one is clearly not developing at the same rate. The others have big red combs and wattles, and she barely has a tan comb. She is much smaller too. She also has not been able to walk for the last 7-10 days. I have had her separated for the last...
Thank you for your reply. There are only 8 of them, and I don't believe that they are having trouble getting water. I change it 4-5 times a day too so I know it's fresh. I read on another board that someone had something like this and it was suggested that it was an upper respiratory thing...
Hello - I have some three week old chicks who have sunken eyes, and now a couple of them do not want to open them. I put some Poly-vi-sol (no iron) in their water just now (5 drops in a pint - no idea if this is a good amount). I also took one of them and put a towel soaked with warm saline...
Hi,
I just got some new chicks and one of them is scratching her back and wings with her foot, and picking with her beak. She is pulling out whatever new feathers she has to the point of no feathers in the area. Do you think this is lice or mites? I can't see anything. What is the proper...
Don't apologize for questions, I appreciate your response!
She has been like this for a couple of days, and the matter on her bottom looks like white poo. She is older 5-6 years old, and hasn't laid eggs for quite a long time. She has always been a pretty broody little thing. I honestly...
Hello,
My little bantam Cochin hen, Marilla, is lethargic and when I pick her up and pet her she nearly falls asleep. She just sits, and is doing nothing else. She has some runny poop on her behind, but not enough that I would necessarily notice if it weren't for her other symptoms. What...
I don't see any mites or lice on her. Would you suggest that I tread her with Sevin if she did? I have some, but I don't want to over do it.
Thanks for your response, I am at a total loss right now. It's really sad.

Thanks, I did worm yesterday with Wazine. But, this morning she is still in the same shape. Yesterday I gave her another warm bath, wormed, gave vitamins, and yogurt. I just don't know what else to do. For about 15 minutes yesterday I held her in my lap. She was so alert and physically...
Thank you Sharon. I'm still not sure if she is eggbound. The fact that she is walking around putting her tail down is the only reason I thought she was. But, now I am wondering if she's doing that just to help her keep her balance.
I have done several searches on this, but I am having such a...
Hi,
We are trying to determine if our hen is eggbound. She is putting her tail up and down, wobbling, lays down a lot, and is generally unsteady. We've googled eggbound and found many pictures and descriptions and followed some treatment methods (warm water bath, warm confinement etc..) but...
Yes, thank you it may be sour crop. I appreciate knowing the correct term so that I can search it. I wasn't getting anything with what I was trying. I'll try some of the suggestions (ie. ACV and live yogurt). Going to the store now...
And yes, she is constantly mouth breathing. Does that...
I just noticed it yesterday, but it could have been going on longer. It's cold here and all my girls are laying low and staying in the coop most of the day or all day for some of them. They eat plain old crumble, but I did give them some sunflower seeds a few days ago. That's what scares me...
Hello,
My little Seabright is having trouble breathing, and exhales through her mouth. She also has a very swollen breast. Could it be an impacted crop if it is not hard? Her breast is swollen, but it's soft. Would this impair her ability to breathe?
It was very cold here in Minnesota...
