I got my chicks from Ideal yesterday, they didnot have any heat pack in there. I'm in Southern IL, and we are having a cold spell. 3 of 27 of my chicks were doa, and I have one sick one. I have ordered 2 other times from Ideal and never had a problem, this is my first time ordering in...
I ordered several Speckled Sussex in October..Ended up with an extra Roo and now the only pullet I got was killed by something yesterday.
I'm in Bond County..I go to Madison and St. Clair County regularly.
I just don't need a couple Roo's ..if interested let me know you are interested.
Donna...
Just wondering what killed my pullet yesterday. It was still daylight. I had let the chickens out to free range and we returned to farm before dusk to find the dead pullet. Feathers from breast area had been pulled out and a bite taken out of the breast.
We had raccoons last year...last year...
yes my chickens went nuts too, when I put the aprons on. Only a couple of chickens needed them and the others attacked the ones with aprons...My aprons were a little too big and they got them off in a couple of days. The good news is that their feathers are starting to grow in. I think...
Call your extension office. To deliver eggs and sell it $15..to sell straight from farm you do not have to do anything. There are different rules for a commercial license (like selling at a farmers market)...and once you sell lots of eggs (I think its like 600+cases) then the rules change...
I change to the non medicated chick starter after the first bag. I just am not into medicating healthy animals. Purina makes a non-medicated starter I think its called "natural", the bad is still red and looks exactly the same except instead of saying medicated it says natural. Talk to the...
Check with your USDA extension office, they will send you the info. I contacted IL and if you sell from your farm you don't have to do anything. If you deliver eggs it is $15 yr, licenses run Jun to Jun there is some kind of limit..its alot like 3000 cases..If you want to sell at farmer market...
The brown eggland best at our local commissary store are $3.69 dozen! My mother use to buy their eggs and swore they were the best...wish I could get some of their customers! BTW, last week my mother asked if I had any eggs that were easier to crack
I happened to be in Effingham IL Rural King yesterday..they said they require a minimum of 5 chicks per breed..Litchfield told me they did not require a minimum per breed, just 25. They seemed to order more varieties (had a book with pictures) and their prices might be different...so it could...
()relics :
I'm on my way out the door right now to find out...Driving to Rural King in the snow....I shall return with info
They will have order forms there, at least our store does in Litchfield...they only seem to order certain birds unless you fill out an order form. You can request a...
Sent you a PM Freddy.
For anyone else interested I though I would add--I found the advantage of ordering from Rural King, was that they told me there would not be a "minimum order of any particular bird". I specifically asked could I order 1 of 25 different birds they said yes. Also no...
I don't know if this is the right place or not..but is anyone interested in spliting an order of chicks? Rural King in Litchfield is offering them and the prices seem reasonable. Minimum order is 25 and I really didn't want to get 25. PM me if you have questions Thanks, Donna
My roo is usually pretty docile, but about once a month he decides he's gonna challenge me. I carry a baseball bat, I don't want my legs involved (just an idea, in my case the bat becomes the target). He has pecked at the bat and I have hit him with it also. Usually after an encounter he...
I have 5 SF raised and in coup with EE, Speckled Sussex, Red Sex Link Gold & Silver Wyandotte, Barred Rock and California Whites, so quite a mixture (a total of 25 birds)
The Speckled Sussex seems to be the dominate bird in the group.
The SF is a very shy bird and seems to go to the back...
Those are two different GL..and a third one I did not get a pic...I only thought maybe the 2nd pic was a roo...but might be the one hiding.
Thanks lilchick, its it possible that I could order roos and get hens?
Quote:

Then the EE's with a sexlink
and wondered if anyone thinks either of those Golden Laced Wyandottes is a roo? (I think maybe the 2nd I was suppose to get one)
A group ( I also got a...
