i have 6 hens that hatched out a year ago this week. some days, we get 3 or 4 eggs a day, but some days we get none. is this normal? it almost seems like we were getting more in the winter than we are now. the only difference that i can think of between then and now, is that they are...

    bald bums?

oh, and about nutrition...i think they're getting the right stuff...i feed them green mountain organic layer pellets, grit and veggies & fruits from the kitchen. i put logs and branches in their enclosure for them to peck at and sometimes some leaves too. everything's frozen, so there's no...

can my chicks be moved outside yet?

can my chicks be moved outside yet?

they'll be 5 weeks old tomorrow and are about 99.9% feathered out (only a few random downy feathers about the head on 1 or 2 of them). it's been in the mid 80's during the day and in the mid-high 60's at night where we are. they're still inside a box indoors in a room that remains in the high...

    i asked for hens only...

...but how do i know that that's what i got? they're only 3 weeks old. 4 of the 6 appear to be developing little nubs for combs (the 2 ameraucana's don't have them, but the plymouth rock, the ri reds, and the golden sexlink sp? all do). should i be worried that i have some roosters? i'm new...

rectum protrusion in 3 day old chick ~ what should i do?

please help me help this little chick. she (and 5 others) just came home yesterday. all seemed fine until this morning, i noticed some blood on her bum. while wiping it off with a wet papertowel, i noticed that her rectum is protruding outside of her body. it's roundish, about the size of a...
