candled egg shows red before incubating

Perhaps it had already started to incubate before shipping or during if warm in transit. Maybe it got "scrambled" inside from too much rough handling along the way. Do all the eggs appear that way or just the one ?

    July Hatch-a-long

LOL, have to agree a good broody is worth her weight in gold. I have had various types of incubators over the years and nothing has ever topped my broody gal.

Getting rid of my rooster! :(

I see nothing wrong with culling him out of your flock. You have to look at the bigger picture and the needs of your family.

    My first Meat birds

After plucking all our butchered birds by hand for several years I decided to buy the drill attachment thinking finally this will make butchering so much easier... NOT...lol. Atleast for me , and I admit I am not the most co-ordinated person but it frustrated me more and seemed to slow me down...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

The hummers were late showing up this year in my yard. I had the feeder out for weeks before I saw any, I was actually starting to get worried. I keep my feeders up until we have frost on a steady basis, I worry about stragglers.

First Time Building Coop, Maybe I Went Overboard!

Great job!!! I confess once I had a broody who had gotten under the coop and had been squirreling away eggs, I dressed one of the kids in coveralls and sent them in under the coop to fetch her and her eggs out. The coop stood about 2 foot off the ground but I thought I had blocked it off well...

    Poorly Polish!

If you think she is egg bound I would give her a warm bath. Just make sure she doesn't catch a chill. Could it be she has gotten too much medication and it's making her feel droopy ? How is her breathing ? I would add some apple cider vinegar to the water, probably couldn't hurt. A bit...

How much for duck eggs (not for hatching, for eating)?

When I had a larger flock I use to sell eggs. Since I live in the country there are signs everywhere along the road EGGS FOR SALE. I never thought to sell duck eggs until a neighbor came over one day and asked if she could get some off of me for noodles. Said she loved to use duck eggs when...

When to put new baby chicks in with older ones?

I've seen a flock literally tear a chick apart, once there is blood the frenzy begins. I normally put newbies in a pen next to the coop or run for a while so they are use to seeing them. Then I try to move the set up inside the run. Even if my flock free ranges they still come back to the...

    big bully!

I had a sex link hen that was a major bully and she would pluck feathers out of the other gals and chase them . She seemed to go from one to another depending on her mood. In my current situation I am not allowed to have a roo and I think that was part of the problem. This is the first time I...
