LOL Just made chix and dumplings tonight with one of the broilers. The EE is posted on craigslist..hoping to trade for a pullet maybe. But thanks for the info..good to know. Hubby will be glad he won't have to process it.
Yeah craigslist sounds like a good idea..had to do that before with a BR. We don't name or pay much attention to the meat birds as to not get attached, but the 'girls' that is a different story altogether lol.
Thanks for that info. Sad to know that Silvia is a Sylvester..lol. I see that some mentioned having cockerel EE in the meat pen...we currently (till this wknd) have 5 Cornish X ready for processing. How are the EE as far as meat go? We are new to the whole meat chicken thing too. Don't know if...
Thanks all... I was thinking that she might be a he...one of the leghorns and this one go at each other and this one puffs right up to her. Familiar from the last BR that turned out to be a He.
I could use some help here... We have 4 hens just over a year old. 2 BR and 2 Isa Browns. In march we bought 6 chicks..2 more Isa's and 2 leghorns and 2 easter eggers. {One of those may be a roo but more on that after I take a picture.} Anyway.. ONE of the older IBs is going after the younger...
My girls are a year old and have never done anything regarding de-worming. Maybe I'm behind the eight-ball on this? I use DE in the coop and run which is sand. Is worming done just to prevent worms? I've not had an issue w/ any.
I'm going to try the cayenne flakes route but have never...
The run is completely covered w/ hardware cloth...you may be right on the space issue. I looked at other coop designs before we built it and saw the ladder idea...I figured they would take different rungs. Although it does look like they roost on the top bar in the coop and they are on the top...
Needing help from the knowledge pool here......
I have 4 hens that share a 4x8 coop. The roosting bar in the coop is a half of a 5 ft ladder on an angle from one was to the other (4ft). Two of the hens seem to be roosting outside on another ladder of similar size. Is it normal and/or alright for...
Awesome. thanks so much for the help. They do go back inside usually right after they come into the run to eat in the a.m. after they free range for an hour or so. and then again in afternoon for a short time. Just didn't know if they should be on roosts then too. They just lay around on the...
Thanks. I may just have hubby put in an 'attic' and store the extra up there. Now I'm wondering if we provide 'bedding', what is the purpose of it if they are supposed to roost at night? when do they roost? bed? and nest ??? totally confused.
I have a 4x8 hen house for our 4 hens and 1 roo (16 weeks). I have 3 bale of straw, 2 are against a wall and go up toward the roof. The chickens all huddle together up there since we blocked off the nest boxes after reading the posts on here. Should I remove the bales? There is a wooden ladder...
