    Tmb3fans Chicken Coop Tractor

I have 5 chicken tractors that I move biweekly. Most of my chickens free range during the day and return to their tractors at night for feeding. I have nest boxes in 3 of the tractors and I will be building boxes for the other 2 very soon. As you can see, most of mine are open air type because...

    Ark for 50 hens????

As someone else said, it is fine for laying and roosting of free range chickens, but you should have a covered area for them to get out of the rain and still be able to walk around a bit. They will not necessarily go to the roost when it rains. Also, if it rains for hours and hours or days and...

So is raising quail on the ground bad or not?

Can you use the same natural worming methods that you use for chickens? I use a mixture of vinegar, garlic, red pepper flakes and thyme. I have been wanting to raise quail on the ground too, but I wasn't aware of the worm problem. Thanks, Teri

    Restarting egg laying after molting

Mine haven't started back either, and I have been giving corn along with layer pellets. That worked on my BO's last year. Even my EE's haven't started back but this would be the EE's third laying cycle. Does anyone know if I should just put the EE's in the freezer or try for another cycle?

    wood treatment for coop?

Quote: When you say all the nastie bugs, are you refering to termites? Does the lime kill them or just repel them? That is the only problem with wood I hav ever had.

Is there such a thing as temp fencing without the electrical?

I am trying to find some temporary fencing (the easy to move stuff) without the electrical wires running through. Just wanting something for controlled free ranging, but I don't want the expense of on electrified fence. My chickens have been free ranging for years on our 5 acres and I need to...

    Quick and Painless Hoop Houses

Thank you so much for all the info. I will look over all the links. I wasn't planning to electrify the fence, just keep the birds in and out of neighbors yards. Teri

    Quick and Painless Hoop Houses

I wish my chickens had such a lush lawn to graze in, everything is dead here from the heat. Your setup is what I have been wanting to do. How tall is the movable fence and where did you get it? I have looked at most of the websites for those, just can't decide on one. Did you get the double...

    Why aren't my hens laying!?

You didn't mention it, are you feeding laying pellets too? If all they eat are veggies, they probably aren't getting enough protein to lay an egg. Mine were laying great until I backed off on their feed for the summer. Now I get about 4 eggs a day as I was getting 12. I backed off on the feed...

    moveable grazing pen

Welcome to BYC! Your run size will be fine for 3 chickens. As far as a garden goes, you will need to fence it in or fence in the chickens. I use chicken tractors and still free range, but my garden is now fenced in. Last year the chickens distroyed it. If you free range, your toddler is...

    Cookie Tin water heater

Quote: My coops are mainly open air type, and the 2 that are closed in have significant ventilation. So the cookie tin heater would be useless for heating coops for me. You can see my coops on my BYC page. I have the open air coops turned with the closed sides facing the North right now, so...

    Cookie Tin water heater

Quote: I put them under the waterers like the original person of the post did. I just wanted everyone to know that they should look for those little plug sockets in the electrical section at Lowes, if they don't want to hard wire.

    Cookie Tin water heater

That is what I did. Got tins for 50 cents each at the dollor store Christmas clearence. I had to make 5 of them. I used this cool little light socket with a plug built right on it from Lowes. No wiring required, just screw in the bulb and plug the other side to the the extension cord. I cut a...
