    What killed my chicken ?

Thank you.. I know there are many possibilities. I know it's a risk I take free ranging but they're just so much happier that way. It's still sad to see one ripped apart. I have a live trap set to see if I catch anything. I'm just crossing my fingers that it doesn't happen again.

    What killed my chicken ?

I'm so sad. I came home today to find one of my chickens dead. I free range them and no other birds were touched. The chicken who was killed has its entire head and neck eaten. There are also feathers everywhere! Poor thing :( I do see hawks occasionally but wouldn't they carry her off? She is...

Well the chick was not alive. I poked it with the q tip and it was hard with no movement. I continued to peel the shell off and the chick was swooshing around inside the membrane. There was so much fluid inside. I'm wondering if my humidity was too high. Ugh. Well, this was definitely a learning...

Well my chick hatched about 1/2 hour ago and seems to be doing well! Very lively!! I'm so relieved... The only other question I have is ..my last egg has shown no sign of life. I tried tapping on it as you said and didn't hear anything inside. Should I give it more time or do you think it's...

eggs due to hatch in 3 days

Hi there .. Congrats on your babies :) It's so exciting to get new chicks isn't it? I hope your hatch goes well. As far as the brooder goes.. you can use plastic, cardboard, or wooden. I have used all three. Those Rubbermaid totes are often good brooders. My only problem with that was the...

    Polish Chickens

Can anyone give me their opinion on raising polish chickens? I've been looking at them for quite a while I love the way they look. I free range my chickens do they do well free ranging or would I need to just keep them in the run? I have read that they tend to be picked on by other chickens is...

Hi there .. I hope this is the right place to post this question I currently had a bad hatch in my incubator.. only one chick hatched and another one is working its way out but after what happened to the others I'm not so sure that it will make it. The one chick that hatched just peeps and...

    Looking for advice/encouragement

Well the chick had made no progress at 3 am so I decided to try and help it. It seemed very weak and didn't make it. This is so sad! I have one more pipped that's moving around and peeping so hopefully this one pulls through. I'm a little worried I shrink wrapped it though from opening my...

    Looking for advice/encouragement

It's been about 12 hrs so I decided to try and help the chick. It looks like there is a membrane over its beak? There also looks like a lot of blood vessels around it. Should I try to poke a hole in it or leave it be? I'm worried it'll bleed to death if I do

    Looking for advice/encouragement

I appreciate you trying to help! I am not aware of any diseases in my flock. All of my chickens are happy and healthy as far as I can tell. I have 3 hens a little over a year and 5 hens who just turned 1 year old this month. The eggs in the incubator are 3 from the younger ones and 2 from the...
