Our hens are molting and egg production is way down. I took advantage of this time to deworm them with wazine 17 so that we'd not have to dispose of eggs when they were in higher production.
It's now been 5-6 days since one of the hens has laid an egg. She's the only one who lays blue, so it'd...
I bought 20 Cornish Xs on Thursday and they are now 6 days old. We got them from TSC and I do not think they have been vaccinated. Whenever I check the brooder, I can hear them sneezing. They are eating, drinking, and acting like normal chicks.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Is there a difference between Cornish X's and Cornish Rocks? Some stores around here have them labeled Cornish X's and some have them as Cornish Rocks. One saleswoman said there is a difference and another at a different store said he did not know.
If there is a difference, what is it?
UPDATE:
I cancelled my order with McMurray. Heck, it was going to be $100 for 30 roosters. Instead, I am heading to TSC to buy 15 for $1.99 each and then will start another batch in about a month. Doing it this way will save $40 on the 30 birds. The TSC will be straight run, as opposed to all...
I just purchased 30 Jumbo Cornish X's roosters from McMurray and now I am a bit nervous that I ordered too many. Last summer, I did 18 Red Rangers and 2 Cornish X's.
My concern is my space. My plan is to keep them inside for the first week or so. We put them in a little kiddy pool with a light...
I buy my layers non-GMO feed from a local farmer who has it milled and the girls love it. With my last batch of meat birds, we used bags from Tractor Supply. This time, I am interested in using the farmer's feed for the meaties. He won't have any milled until about a month after we get them and...
Quick question. I processed my first batch of chickens on Saturday. I let them each rest for almost three days before sticking in freezer. I have one still in the refrigerator because I am planning to cook it Friday. My wife thinks it needs to be put in freezer because sitting in fridge form...
I think this chick may have spraddle leg or some other deformity. She's six weeks, can barely walk, and spends most of her time laying. We've had to separate her from the other chicks because they are standing on her, walking over her, etc.
Can anyone tell me if this is really spraddle and, if...
This is my first year having chicks and I do not know what to do. I have a 6 week old Rhode Island Red that has some serious leg issues. Both of her legs are splayed and she is struggling to walk. She can get up and move a little bit, but is definitely hindered by her legs. From what I have...
