So I got a killer deal at Tractor supply on Cornish X. Already 3 weeks old and $1 each. Out in the yard they go and we're a weak it and everyone has been really hardy.
However, I just found out TSC switched to Hoover Hatchery for their chicks and I've never heard of them or got birds from them...
He was sold too me as a female at a young age. I didn't doubt it. Later when I had fertile eggs we figured it out. Lol I'm not planning on keeping any if the new males. Coco hates them, & they all bite me. I'm keeping the sweet little girl though.
Hey livin, the one on the left is the male. They are both 3 years old now. I got the babies tho replace the pekin we had who passed away in May. They were both really depressed.
5 lavender mixes from a May hatch from Bhep. I'm thinking 4 drake and 1 hen. The 4 extra males i think they are, are tearing each other's flight feathers out! Mean boys?
I'm thinking legbar cross, maybe with a darker maran (black of blue). I love the little mohawk crest on my blue one, she didn't get it until about week 3 and it wasn't very pronounced until now. I've found the roo and pullet are both very friendly and inquisitive in personality too. Add to that...
Well they possibly could be... but the face... I don't know, its very hawk like. I could say it has Maran in it, but something tells me its a cross. Again, totally my opinion based on the barring being so sparse, and the way the eyes are set on their head. That rooster will have a VERY detailed...
Yeah, she looks just like my Rooster OE I got for sure. The comb is HUGE and mine is only 6 weeks old now too.
This is when 'HE' was 4 weeks old. That comb is RED now!
Do you have pictures of them right now?
Not all Olive eggers will have crests from them. There is like a 1 in 10 chance that you got a legbar mix and that gene shows. My roo has the color and barring of the CL but no crest. He does have the CL comb though for sure. It has the feathered legs...
So I guess I should come back in a couple weeks on that Lav Orp huh?! lol
I believe the other chick is another olive egger but its got blue copper over cream legbar in it. I hope so, she's pretty.
The olive eggers from Meyer use several colors of Marans, Blue or Wheaton Americauna and Cream Legbars. I have now seen 4 completely different young ones from there.
The 2 I have, 1 was a legbar and Black copper mix and I'm sure my second one was a blue americana to a blue copper. I've also...
I'm not sure because the pictures aren't great and I really can't get a good look at the comb, but the tail looks like its getting male feathers. Again, not sure though.
Production reds from TSC are from Mt Healthy and Mt Healthy sells a mixed breed red production bird. That's all they are. They're a mix to create a red layer. They're good egg layers though, but not true to any type of a breed. They're just a great backyard egg laying pet, you'll enjoy them.
Hey!
Yes, its been a LONG time .I've just been putting in extra time at work and with the family. Which is nice, less online time feels good. :)
And yes, Ms. Penelope has a little fly away on top of her head. Reminds me of the little mohawk my muscovies get. Curiouser, curiouser!
