I've got a Welsummer and a Buckeye doing the very same thing. Searching posts to find a solution. I got a soft shelled egg and a broken egg on the floor today. Made sure to clean it right up, don't need egg eaters. Will other hens damage/attack coop mates eggs?

I think that would be too much. I'm dosing a chicken right now at 1/4 tsp. per quart of drinking water. That works out to a tsp. per gallon. Just mix up a quart and draw off into a syringe and tube feed her. I don't know, however, how much you would want to tube feed her. 20cc 2x a day would be...
Yep, four year old thread, and some people are searching for solutions for their sick hens. Now it's four years and some months old thread.
Just sayin'.
Thanks, SpeckledHills, that's how I figured out how to dose my sick hen.
There is a lovely conversion program here: Online conversion of...
No, I don't think she has lost weight. If anything, she's putting it on. Unfortunately, the vet didn't put her vitals on my receipt, and I didn't think to ask her. I desperately need to get a scale.
She's acting like a hen, preening, scratching, pooping, eating, clucking at me, saying, 'Cmon...
Being that my landowner only let me have 6 hens, we decided to go the 'tractor' route and have 4 hens. That, and we've got a plethora of predators that we don't want to entertain. And same reason why we move them around, too. It just makes 'clean' sense. One of the reasons I haven't wormed yet...
Holy information overload, Batman! But really, that's what I was hoping for, thank you, Casportpony. Yeah, I haven't wormed anyone with the levamisole hydrochloride. I know worming is hard on them, it's hard on all animals.
I did get some BOSS and whole corn. Thanks for the ratio and amount to...
Thanks, Centrarchid.
They have free choice lay mash and I've not given any other foods since Dawg's advice.
All 4 birds are relatively thin. My bad for not knowing what a 'thin' bird was.
I now know that oats will take the weight right off of them.
Any suggestions on getting them back up to...
Yeah, no, I don't think she's got Marek's. She's doing much better today.
Dawg, any thoughts on this levamisole hydrochloride anthelmintic? It's not going to kill them to worm them, and if that's the problem for the low weight, then I need to take care of that.
Well, the vet called me and I asked her about de-worming my hens.
This is what she told me:
She does not routinely recommend de-worming because of where we live.
She does not worm her hens.
She also wants to keep the 'sick' hen where it is warm for another few days or so.
Not a problem, I like...
Yeah, I don't have expendable income, either, but I felt the only way to get this hen back on track was to consult a professional. I do most of my own doctoring for my cats, dogs, horses and donkey, but hens are new to me. I don't mind paying for a little education.
She's doing well. No more diarrhea, and she's eating and drinking well. Preening her feathers and scratching around in the cage.
I've enjoyed having her in the house. I don't want to put her back out.
Will it shock her system to put her back with the others outside? I don't heat my coop, but...
I'm thinking something along the lines of bacterial intestinal infection, too. She is soooo much better today, no diarreah, form to her poo. She's never been off her food, and is still eating quite well. She actually was scratching around in the cage she's in, and I haven't seen her scratching...
MMMMMM, yeah, that's the chart.
This morning, she seems to be doing pretty well. We washed her bum yesterday and got a good bit of her feathers cleaned up. She's getting another cleaning this morning. Her poo is much more formed and normal looking. I'm wondering if she had some kind of...
I'm pretty confident in my vet's abilities. She's an exotic/avian vet, and knows her birds. Hen is resting comfortably, and has eaten well this morning.
Thanks, Casportpony. That's the kind of help I was looking for. She's in the house where it's warm, in a crate with a towel under her, food and water available. I'll check out the other information. Thanks, again.
