When to process white broad breasted turkeys?

So here's another bit of advice for the grinding part...since you are skinning and not plucking there won't be any fat on the birds which will create VERY lean meat and when you actually cook it it could be dried out. We ground it with some bacon (not turkey bacon) to add some fat to it to help...

When to process white broad breasted turkeys?

I'm not the most experienced backyard chicken person, but we have done the chicken thing for over a year and in February we got 4 white breasted turkeys that were about 2 weeks old. We butchered 2 of them last Saturday and the each weighed in around 60lbs live weight. That's ALOT of bird...

    Sick baby Mini-LaMancha

My babies are 2 months old. I've started weaning them this week, there are 3 in the litter. One of them, the most social and completely quiet one, started doing some little cries today and is standing out in the heat/direct sun while the others are in the shade. She seems to be breathing...

Okay...so it's the pm and the weezing is back and as it was last night. I'm worried about her. We are suppose to go out of town tomorrow morning for about a week and this has me very concerned to leave. Any other ideas? She still doesn't have a temperature and I've been faithful about the...

    Help my goat!

Okay...so here is the morning update! I went out to greet her and she sounded MUCH better. I gave her another tsp of benedryl with the crushed vitamin c and afterward she sounded a bit raspy again. I cleaned out her house with some of the excess alfalfa ( I removed what felt like a...

    Help my goat!

My goat, mini la-mancha, is about 3 months into her pregnancy and she is weezing. I took her temp tonight and it was 102.5. There is no nasal discharge and she is eating normally. Her house is dry and clean and well ventilated. I have noticed that she is such a messy eater and spills her...

Is anyone else getting really scared?

The only comfort I take is taking things one day at a time. Am I ok? Am I right with my maker? Am I living within my means? Am I saving where I can? Whether religious or not, faith is something that can bring comfort!

    Question about my pregnant rabbit

Thanks for the input! I have put her inside the laundry room in a cage for now. I know she doesn't like it...she loves to run and play. But this way I can keep my eye on her and the babies since she is a first time mom. With it being about a week away (until 28 days) she will have time to...

    Question about my pregnant rabbit

So my doe, a holland lop, is about 2 1/2 weeks pregnant. (This Wednesday marks 3 weeks). She and the male holland are let out of their cages each day into the goat pen where they run and play all day long and then at night, because it's colder, we've been putting them in the garage in a kiddie...

    Goat question

My Mini-Lamancha is an "only" goat...but I think she is the exception not the rule. She was producing about a 1/2 gallon a day and we are getting less and less as the weather gets colder and colder. She will be bred next week so come December/January we will stop milking her all together...

    Anyone have problems with Ideal??

I'm pretty sure they are EE's. I looked at the pictures on My Pet Chicken and that is what they look like and their feathers on their wings are already starting to come in a bit and don't look anything like my 16 week RIR's. I thought I was wrong but the more the feathers come in the more I'm...

    Anyone have problems with Ideal??

I ordered from Ideal Poultry 3 weeks ago and when my shipment arrived 2 weeks ago, I was about 13 chicks short and got too many of one kind and none of another. So I called and they said they'd re-ship the ones I was missing. Well...last week my shipment came and same thing...I didn't get any...

Out of room in my coop!

So I didn't anticipate that I would get addicted to chickens and didn't plan for much more than 6 birds. I now have 3 full growns, 5 eight week olds and am brooding about 12 more...YIKES! So...I have a couple of options and was hoping you could help me make the best decision. The place in my...

    My ducklings hate me!

Thanks! Today I have to change the hay and I'm almost dreading stirring them up that much...but it must be done! Yesterday I just sat in the garage and read just so that my presence was there and they could realize that I wasn't going to do anything to them.
