Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi everybody! I hatched some project color eggs this spring and have an oddity Id like some opinions on! This is a Lav Cuckoo Am from Faykokowv. Her head is feathering in CURLY! The only other I hatched has normal feathers and the rest of this pullet's (I think anyways) feathers are smooth. Is...

Here are some update pics! Any guesses on genders? 1- 2- 3- Plus one other who wasn't interested in photography today who looks almost identical to bird 2. The closest to me in this pic They all look pretty pink to me but maybe I'm just not used to this breed. What do you think Sally?

3 mo old Splash Ameraucana cockerel from show stock

I have too many roosters and this one needs a new home. I hatched him 3/14 from eggs purchased from Mstrawn3. He is a very pretty splash with a great fuzzy face and great leg color. Very gentle and friendly. He is available for pick up north of Longview Texas or delivery to Shreveport LA is...

    Broody Hen Thread!

I did not but I never do. I can't be there in the morning to make sure she doesn't kill them so I always do it in the daytime when I can supervise. I've given three mamas chicks this year and two last year doing it the same way. Maybe this mama just isn't cut out. She acted similarly last year...

    Broody Hen Thread!

HELP!!! I drove over to Ernie Haires to pick up some Marans chicks for a mama whose been sitting for three weeks. The dang bird flipped out at the sight of the chicks and went crazy until I put eggs back in the box. She promptly sat down and went back to incubating. But the chicks won't go to...

Blue Gold Splash Partridge Brahma, Crested Cream Legbar, White Faced Spanish, Serama/frizzle

Oh no! Hens feather faster? I only have one well feathered, the rest barely have full wings and no hackle or tail feathers. The one on the right with the fab red and blue back feathers has nearly twice the feathering as everyone else. So maybe one pullet and the rest cockerels?

Blue Gold Splash Partridge Brahma, Crested Cream Legbar, White Faced Spanish, Serama/frizzle

My babies are growing well! Though slow growing, they are hefty with great bone. I have a range of colors coming in. What do you think of these two? The right is my darkest and reddest and all but one of the others (who is very very light) looks like the bird on the left. The bird on the right...

    CCL cross-roo?

I hatched this baby on 4/15. Mom is a CCL, dad is pictured. Roo or pullet? I'm thinking roo by the face but the color should be different by now Id think. Not sure how CCL Roos color developed though-do they get shoulder color early like other breeds? Opinions? Dad-

Bantam Mottled Cochin rooster chicks -smooth and FRIZZLED - East Texas

I hatched some amazing Bantam Mottled Cochins from a local breeder. I'm in love with these birds but the roosters need a new home! I have one smooth feathered who is very easy to handle and one frizzle raised by my Marans. Both will be lovely birds. Hatched 4/15. Local pick up only. May deliver...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi everybody! I hatched out some eggs from a few different breeders this spring and am concerned about how clean faced they seem. These are my first pure Ams to hatch. Should I be? Splash and blue (roo and pullet?) hatched 3/14 Pair of Wh (no chance they are BW right?) hatched 3/19...

    Incubators Anonymous

If you have a tank water heater, fill glass jars or plastic bottles with lids with straight hot water and put them in there. Works really well so watch the temp. Replace them as needed with new water. Your hot water tank should stay hot for hours.

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

I do agree packing makes a difference. I only received one double boxed shipment. I've read the 101 post a dozen times and do all I'm supposed to for shipped eggs it seems to me-settle12 hr, don't turn for 24-48 hr, never candle anyway but up, I did stop the turner on day 16 for a couple of sets...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

The last batch came from WV, shipped on the 14th, arrived the 16th. But I've received eggs from six sellers this year (seven different shipments). I did receive one set that I questioned the age as the air cells were extra large but not this last group. All the other shipments were PTI ("prior...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Never thought to take pics of the air cells before! They didn't strike me as overly large before set but then again I'm very very hands off in the beginning on the shipped eggs as I thought was recommended. Of nearly 200 eggs I had shipped to me this spring, I bet I can count on two hands the...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

An update for anyone interested. I tried, but never got decent pics of the large fluid sacks in the pointy ends. The hatch went as all of my shipped egg hatches have so far: 3 chicks out of 16 eggs. Here's how it broke down: -received 16 well packed, none broken, most air cells detached...

    Janoel Incubator

Hi everybody! I have the 48 as well. It holds a steady temp but not what the controls read. I've had mine down on 37.2-37.3 this hatch. Last hatch ran on 37.4 and started hatching on day 19. I monitor the temp with two additional, calibrated thermometers. I've also noticed some hot and cool...
