I let my hens come in through the cat flap and I'm worried one hurt her toe in the way in. The inside toe seems to be bent but maybe it was like this before and I didn't notice. She's behaving normally. Am I being over concerned ? On the way in she did stop and I wondered if she got a bit stuck...
I can't believe I googled cat boagies and this thread came up lol. I'm sure it's just general grot but I pick it off while my cat just sits on my lap. She's happy with this so I'm hoping she's pleased they disappear!
Do u think it best to put them together at night and separate by day for a while? Should they be able to see each other but not reach the others, how long for? I guess really I will just need to keep an eye.
Well I've only got 3 and it's quick to grab the poo and the surrounding wood chips. I mainly use a dust pan and brush but those odd extra ones I just want to get rid of as I see them. I obviously wouldn't do that with a dog poo as its hazardous, but how much respect does chicken poo need??
How careful should I be when handling the chicken poo? Are gloves required? Or is it ok to pick them up with bare hands and give them a good wash afterwards?
Well although these posts have been on a while Ive found it very interesting to read. My hen Gertrude has been a bit off colour for a week or so now. She had gone off her food although she had always been on the thin side. Last week I noticed she was moulting and she now has new feathers...
My thin chicken who has been moulting has just laid a pale soggy skin and a separate lump that appears to be tissue. It's up to 4cm in length and has the colour of cooked chicken ( sorry!) and when I cut it it has many folds inside. Any ideas? She seems fine now.
Hi, Ive used Flubenvet - Im in the UK so not sure if you have that one? Cant say Ive heard of the two you suggest but thats prob because of where Im based.
Ive just had a good look for mites or anything crawling about but didnt see anything. She does seem quite perky today so hopefully she...
Hi, sorry you get me wrong. Its just one or two hen laying soft shells I think as I always get one good egg every day. Ive been collecting up slugs and the such like which they enjoy. Bit yucky tho! Why are the feeds vegetarian, do you know?
I have had my 3 hens for a month now and most days I get 1 or 2 soft shelled eggs that are broken or just soggy skins. I think they are just so thin they break very easily rather than the hens purposefully breaking them to eat them.
They have a mixed grit that includes oyster shell and Ive...
Hi, Ive had my 3 hens for a month now, from a free range rescue and we are getting used to each other nicely. Ive noticed that one of my girls is around half the weight of the other 2 and she even turned down grapes on Friday (today is Sunday). She produced a white, foamy poo as well.
Ive...
Strangely enough it was recommended for use in the run on another forum! I've learnt quickly it's great in the dry and shocking when exposed to the elements!
I've had my chickens for a couple of weeks now and have used Hemcore in the house and in the run ( which has a concrete base ). I did think that the Hemcore would dry out nicely but after a few days of rain it's turned to mush! What can I use to keep it nice and smell free?
Hi, thanks for all the welcomes! I'm going to try worming as I have no idea when it was last done. They do have mixed grit that includes oyster shell but it doesn't seem to have gone down much!
Hi, I'm in the UK and have taken on 3 hens. I've been busy attending to them but have come to realise they r just messy lol. I am a bit concerned and the clumps of bedding/ food/ mud on their feet and some of the runny poos I have found. They are still settling in and seem very happy especially...
