    Start layer feed?

My chickens are 15 weeks old, and I am running out of chick feed this week. I want to get another 50 pound bag to save the trip to the store. Can they switch to layer feed at this point or should I buy another 50 pound bag of chick feed? Thanks

My chicks are about 4.5 weeks old now. Supposed to be Delawares (but I got them at a feed store). Their names are Cornbread and Butterbean. Can you please let me know if these are pullets? We can't have a roo in the city. Thanks. Butterbean's saddle feathers Cornbread's head...

San Francisco- When can chicks go outside at night?

Hello, We live in San Francisco, our chicks are 4 weeks and a few days old. It's in the 60s during the day and 50s at night. When can the chicks stay outside in their coop at night with no heat lamp? I am worried about the logistics of keeping a heat lamp in our coop. Thanks

Do chickens need access to nest boxes/coop during the day?

I'm admittedly new to this... Our chicks aren't outside yet but I'm thinking ahead. When do chickens lay eggs? Is it mostly in the morning? We have a coop/run for the chickens at night/some days and we're creating a tractor run for them to "free range" safely around the yard. The tractor...

We picked up four chicks from a local feed store on Saturday, they are about 1.5 weeks old. Two delaware, one black australorp and one silver laced wyandotte. I have a bad feeling that the australorp is a roo but only time will tell. For now the mission is to get them highly socialized to...

    Frizzle bantam, delaware, wyandotte clues?

We're getting chicks on Sat from the local feed store. The delaware and the wyandottes are sexed 90% but the bantams seem to be 50/50. They'll be about 1.5 weeks old at the time. Any clues for what to look out for when only looking for females of all three breeds (but especially the frizzle...

New to chickens. Will this work?

Hello, We're new to chickens, I've been wanting them for some time now but we just returned from a trip to Kauai where we spent a lot of time with feral chickens and have decided to take the plunge. A local (kind of) feed store has chicks through July (we'd like to get chicks because I would...
