thanks for replying, I'm glad to hear Hawkeye did snap out of it eventually, that gives me hope!
Bonny is 2 1/2 & she's never been properly broody before. I was given her at 6mths by a breeder because she had
a cataract & couldn't be sold but was too sweet & cuddly not to save. Her eye became...
Hi, I know this is a very old thread but if you're still around doodledoo, I'd be interested to know what happened
to broody Hawkeye? Did she eventually give up?
I have a 2 y/o brahma, Bonny, who has been firmly broody since early July, every time I think she's loosing interest
she starts up...
Gosh I'd forgotten about that! Yes the chicks were fine, they didn't get ill, there was no more blood and
they grew up into lovely healthy chooks! So I don't know what caused the blood, perhaps that chick ate a
sharp stone & it scratched him on the way out or something.
It was proper fresh red blood, not loads, just a few drops, but not that pinky gel like gut lining that
the other chickens sometimes produce in poops overnight.
My three 9 week olds free range all day in my garden with my other chickens & sleep in a separate coop at night.
This morning when I cleaned their coop I found a poop with red blood in it. This also happened a couple of weeks
ago, just the one time, I kept a close eye on them & decided as they...
our hansome bantam brahma cockerel Smidge at one year old, also at one day old!
I'm loving all these brilliant photos, will I be able to buy a calendar over here in the uk?
I have a new silkie hen, I'm wondering what colour you would call her, she reminds me of a tabby cat
very pretty, it could be she's a cross between colours, what do you think? Partidge?
DE is good to put in their dustbaths too. Not sure if you have the same things in US but when my hens had a lice
problem I used a drop of Frontline for cats (my vet said it was ok) on them, it worked a treat. I only have a few chickens
though, and they are rather spoilt.
I think it's pretty certain that Mrs Fluffnut is really Mr Fluffnut then. At least he's had a chance
for his bleeding tail to mend, his feathers to nearly grow back & his confidence to return some. Soon he can go
back to my friend & find some mrs Fluffnuts of his own & I'll try again with...
Mrs Fluffnut was extremely bouncy & jumpy this morning, almost like a guineapig doing that popcorn thing!
I suppose it could be roo behaviour, I'd love her to be a girl but my head is telling me otherwise - those
"streamers" are getting more obvious I think.
Its hard to judge the behaviour as I've never had a silkie before & interacting with a blind friend may be different than usual.
She did rear up a bit to Giblet today which made me think...uh oh! but may be just sorting out pecking order. In other breeds
I've found the boys more friendly.
The...
Sorry I didnt explain very well, all 4 pics are of Mrs Fluffnut yesterday, (she had a dirty head in one)
She obviously has a mixture of girl & boy features!
You folk seem quite good at this! I'm not positive of the age, maybe 16 wks now.
This is Mrs Fluffnut who I was given as a companion to my young blind pullet, Giblet.
Mrs F had been bullied & lost alot of feathers on her back & she was very nervous.
She's recovering well, growing in confidence &...
Giblet now has a new friend, a young silkie pullet who was been badly bullied & needed a gentle companion
a perfect match!
her name is Mrs Fluffnut, Giblet follows her to the food. They've become inseparable.
Really?! I'd love Twinkle to be a hen (I'll have to change the name if she's a boy!)
When she/he's being active her comb goes quite pink, and there are some long
feathers appearing in that tale, but the head is quite hen-like. hmmm!
