A couple of weeks ago we had a Rainbow Dixie hen that we had to put down because of bleeding from her vent. She was only a year old. Two weeks prior to putting her down we noticed she had a large backend and her comb was pale. I thought her large backend was due to the fact she was naturally...
I'm in the process of finding out which hens have started to lay. Anytime I hear the "I layed an egg" song I go out to see who is singing and grab the egg. Lately I have had 3 hens sing but then there is no egg in the nest. This is not just my new gals either as one of my old girls did it today...
I got a new drip/nipple waterer for my girls. A few things I have concerns about.
1) will they learn to drink from it?
2) how high should it hang?
3) the nipples do drip slowly when no hen is drinking, should that be happening?
4) do I need to worry about the nipples freezing in the winter?
