I was holding one of my hens and noticed a few little milky white bugs crawling on her, as well as quite a few smaller ones (same color) attached to the base of the feathers. What are they and what can I do to get rid of them? They are all large breed layers, 13 total in this coop. All...
Buy liquid sevindust and use 1 teaspoon per gallon of water in a garden sprayer. Remove food and water and spray everything including your whole flock with a mist. Should definitely do the trick.
You also may want to consider a nearby opossum. They have been known to carry a large chicken away. I would invest in a have-a-heart trap to see what you fund.
One teaspoon of liquid sevndust to one gallon of water in a garden sprayer should do the trick. Remove the food and water then spray a mist over everything including the whole flock. You also might want to consider changing your flooring material in your coop to construction/ leveling sand.
I have moved him inside out of the cold and rain.I've noticed a noise sounding like a cough a few times. I have given him a dose of ivermectin, and will do so again in a couple of days. A breeder that I know said to break a 500mg amoxicillin and give him a 1/4 of it mixed with something he...
I have a Tolbunt Polish rooster that is not crowing. When he first started crowing, it was real rasping, almost sounded like a teenager who's voice is changing. I just noticed today that he is trying to crow but can't. He stretches his neck, opens his mouth, but no noise. Please help with any...
I have a 5' fence and my bantams flew out no problem. I clipped their wings and the problem was solved. Start at the tip of the wing. Cut off about 1 1/2 to 2 inches...depending on the size of the wings. You will see three different types of feathers. The first 7 to 12 feathers are their flight...
Does anyone have any longcrowers, hatching eggs...or know where to get them. I have been searching, but I have not been successful. I live in North Carolina and am willing to travel to neighboring states. If you're willing to ship eggs let me know. PLEASE HELP!!!
I'm not too sure as to how much grit is too much, but twice a month has worked for me. I'm sure that their nutrition has to do with their egg shell texture. I'm just not sure as to what they may be lacking. I've never had luck with the pellets. I've only had luck with the laying crumbles. Once I...
I am not a big fan of oyster shell. Instead try using the Tractor Supply brand "Dumor" laying crumbles. I have used it for a couple of years and have had great results. Each chicken gives me about 5-6 eggs a week, and NEVER have had a squishy egg out of 36 chickens. You may also want to try some...
I think that the remaining chickens will be fine. You may want to check the ones that are keeping their distance for injuries. I'll also give you a tip on training the dog. I haven't personally done this, but I have seen the results and know it works. If this happens again.....hopefully...
I agree... I had a broody silkie. All I did was about every hour I would pick her up out of the nest and place her with the others in the run. After about a week of coming back to no eggs...she got the hint. But I do think some sort of wire cage would work great.
I recently purchased two 1 year French Black Copper Marans. I was hoping to have the dark, almost Hershey bar colored eggs like I see in pictures. Instead they lay a brown egg, a bit darker than my orphingtons, but not as dark as I expected. The eggs are also speckled with a deep dark brown...
I am fairly new to chicken raising and need some advice about worm and lice prevention. Is there any type of wormer you folks recommend that is safe and easy to use? I'm currently dusting the food with a little DE about once a week. My large coop has 16 chickens and my smaller ones house 5-8...
