    Questions?

I am definitely no expert, a newbie 2. I did go through 2 hatches though. I go ahead and remove the chicks to the brooder after 24 hours. I quickly do it and make sure to add very warm water to the bator afterwards. Humidity doesn't drop that much. I have a Hovabator and it seems to work...

Help had to rescue a chick that hatched and had to open the bator

Glad I'm not the only "newbie worrier". :) I took 2 out last night, then 2 this morning, the other 3 still look a bit wet so I thought I would wait until this afternoon evening to take them out. The one that had the shell stuck to him is doing fine although he is really small compared to the...

Brand new chicks are pecking at thermostat

Hi everyone 7 of my chicks hatched today and they are pecking at the thermostat in the incubator. is this okay? Do yours do this? The last time I hatched eggs they did not, although I only had 2 hatch. I believe its the thermostat is the black box under the dial that you turn to regulate the...

Help had to rescue a chick that hatched and had to open the bator

I'm afraid to take pics right now. Because I can barely see them in the bator and I'd need a flash. I'm afraid the flash will bother them too much. Newbie fears i guess. I will post some pics as soon as I transfer them to brooder. One chick still has a piece of shell on it's back do I need...

Help had to rescue a chick that hatched and had to open the bator

Okay, we now have 6 new baby silkies in the incubator. Not bad for shipped eggs. That gives us a 50% hatch rate from shipped eggs. We believe that only 1 more has the possibility of hatching. The other 2 eggs just looked a little different when we last candled them. Although they had veins...

Help had to rescue a chick that hatched and had to open the bator

Okay, the eggs that pipped hatched. Yay!!!! I was so worried. We now have 4 little chicks in the bator. This is so exciting. We still have 5 that have not hatched, but tonight will mark the 21st day so maybe they are just waiting for their time. I was so surprised that the 4 hatched on the...

Help had to rescue a chick that hatched and had to open the bator

One of the two chicks that hatched tonight got stuck under the screen mesh floor. He was completely under it. So we had to open it and quickly rescue the chick and we quickly put wet paper towels on the edges..The humidity dropped to 55 degrees but we quickly got it backup again. Will the eggs...

    Egg Carton Hatching?

My first and only time hatching eggs experience was using the egg carton during lockdown. They were bantam eggs. (were all supposed to be silkies but 1 turned out not to be) The first one to hatch had a hard time getting out of the shell. It was stuck upside down with feet in air. After...

Eggs came in earlier than expected

Thank you. I guess to be on the safe side we will put them in the incubator tonight then when the turner comes in we can quickly put it in then let it go. It's a bit hard here in tucson to find a place with temps that low with the exception of the refrigerator then it will be too cold LOL!!!!

Eggs came in earlier than expected

The eggs I ordered from ebay came in earlier than expected. So we fired up the incubator and will let it run for 24 hours since from what i understand the eggs should rest for 24 hours too before putting them in the incubator. I figured this way we can stabilize the temp and humidity. I'm...
