Hello Everyone. First of all, my concern is not that my new chickens aren't laying yet. I'm impatiently being patient for them to start. Here's my question:
I put 5 spring laying hens with 4 of my older hens from last year. I have seen several smaller eggs, so I know at least some of them...
So I've posted a few picture on this forum asking for gender of a chicken to be identified. Can any of you old pros give me some tips on getting better at this myself. What do you look for and what are some of the more sure fire indicators (other can eggs or crowing, I know those :-)).

I'm really hoping for a good brooding hen in this one, but the comb is looking a little big and red, plus the tail feathers are growing longer. What do you think?
Someone gave me this rooster a while ago and I don't know what breed it is. Any thoughts? The tail feathers are a beautiful green color in the right light.
Also, does anyone know if its possible to "declaw" roosters? Not something I would do, but this rooster has no claws at all, which...
