I'll have to pick up some of the dusting stuff you mention above. I've read that ivermectin works for mites as well, but I don't want to have to do that unless absolutely needed. I don't get many eggs at this point, and I don't want to throw them out. But if it comes to it, that's what will...
Well, looks like I have 2 chickens with this. I soaked them both in warm epson salt and all I had to do was squeeze the dark scab looking thing and it all came out without a problem. There isn't any additional swelling in the area or near the pad...although on the 2nd chicken, there may be a...
I didn't notice the scales....I'll have to get some vaseline and start that right away. Her pad doesn't appear swollen in person, I was pushing up on her foot to get a good view of the bump. I'm going to start the soaks for sure. I have seen some video's of the surgery, and I'm sure I could...
I'm still fairly new to backyard chickens. I just recently added a friends 6 chickens to my flock of 2, since I have lost 4 other birds to a hawk attack and my neighbor's dog.
My birds have always been healthy, so when I saw this on one of the new birds I got a week ago, I wasn't sure what it...
One of my EEs is laying now as well. I have an idea who it was because she was pacing the yard for a while. What a pretty green color as well! My BO that is laying has been spending time off and on in the nest box, I bet I'll have another by the end is the day! So exciting!! And I found both...
Curious to know how your girls are doing??? I think about them from time to time. Did you end up getting a roo? If so, what did you get? Hope all is well!!

I sure hope so! It's like waiting all year for Christmas! The anticipation is killing me. Every morning when I go to let them out (they free range in my backyard all day), I look inside the coop, hoping to see something. But, no bueno. Nothing.....yet. I have also been looking around the...
I'm getting a little impatient with my girls!!! They are 21 weeks old, buff orps and EEs, and I wanna see eggs!!!!! Up north where I'm from, there isn't a lot of daylight, so I rigged up a 60 watt bulb in the coop to give them more "light" to see if it kicks them into gear. I know it can take...
I'm going to have to try that!! I love growing things, so this should be fun! I have a huge garden space that I will be using this next spring/summer (24 foot by 14 foot raised bed), and I plan to plant some sunflowers (the ones that grow really big) and give the girls those as well. I swear...
Black Oil Sunflower Seeds (in the shell). Took me a while to figure out what it was. There are so many abriviations used in this group.....as a newbie, it can be hard to figure out what they are. I still have no idea what it means when someone says DH. Maybe someday I'll figure it out!
I gave my girls oatmeal this morning, just to see how they would do. I also added garlic and ACV to it since they won't touch it if its in their water. SUCESS!! They gobbled it up!!! I wasn't sure if they would go for it with the ACV and garlic, but they didn't seem to mind it. Good luck...
I have my nest boxes blocked off because they just want to sleep in them. I was planning on opening them up when I see them actually lay an egg. I have been in the process of training them to sleep on the roost. (They are stubborn little things, let me tell you!)
I don't have any roosters...
I have 2 EE's that are about 19 weeks old. In the last day or so, I have noticed that they are digging around in the dirt more and laying there. They aren't doing the dust bath stuff, just cozying up, sometimes next to eachother and laying in the holes they seem to make in the yard near the...
I think the thread will still be here, even if you or other's don't post anything for a while. I'm new to this, so I could be wrong, but anything that I have posted in or started stays on a list under the forums tab and then clicking on the link of stuff that you have posted on. So, I'm sure...
Whatever those girls are, they are absolutely stunning! The more I'm on this site and the more I see the great chicken pictures that everyone post, the more I want more. But, I can't have more then the four that I already have. =(
Someday, when I don't live in the city limits, I will have...
Hi everyone!!
New to this site and new to chickens.
I'm from Lynden, just bought a house here a year ago. I have two EEs and two Buff Orps in my backyard and they are so fun to watch! They are each 18 weeks old and I'm getting excited that I'm not to far away from getting fresh eggs...
