Twice in the past week, I’ve found shelless eggs (the membrane is there, so they look like beige water balloons) in the nest boxes.
Tonight, I found an “egg balloon” and this odd bit. Is it an eggless shell? I cut it open, and both ends have some albumen and what looked like chalazes.
This morning I found another duckling with my hen, Iris. Well, sort of with her. She is very attentive to the duckling hatched Thurs, but is ignoring this one. At least she didn’t just kill it, right?
I took the new babe and put it near a setting duck (hatching any time) to see what would...
My hen, Iris, has been setting on some Muscovy eggs that were laid in the coop. Well, at least one has hatched!
Will she accept her deformed chicks, or do I need to rescue them? I honestly didn’t expect this, as 4/7 of the eggs just had dark liquid in them. I must’ve missed one . . .
I never thought it would happen, but Iris, my hen, hatched at least one of the Muscovy eggs she’s been setting!
Now what? Will she be okay with her deformed chick, or do I need to rescue it? She was acting funny, and I looked under her—there was a duckling! I’m a little concerned because new...
I have a hen that has been setting for 5 weeks. She decided to set on some eggs that one our ducks had laid in the chicken coop. Weird, but whatever.
I’ve checked the duck eggs, and they’re all bad. Nothing but liquid in them. I was thinking of putting a couple chicks under her, but can’t get...
Our Muscovy duck, LouLou, was setting on a clutch of 8 eggs (down from 13 thanks to a skunk). One egg hatched on a Weds. I thought, “ well, it’s to be expected. There’s not been any new genetics introduced, so . . .” And left it at that. Until Sun, when I went out to do chores and found an...
I’m asking for friend who’d like to try quail eggs and see if she is allergic to them. She def can’t eat chicken eggs.
If you have eggs to sell, would you please message me with information? Thanks.
I have had this problem with another duck and had no luck diagnosing; I’m hoping you can help now because it has spread.
Three of my Muscovies have growths that look like egg white in the front corner of their eyes (the point closest to the nostrils). Some have larger growths than others, but...
So, my duck has swellings in the front corners of his eyes that look like slightly-cooked egg white (white, opaque) and is acting poorly. My dx from looking at online vet manuals is infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT). How do I treat it? TBH, the wording in the manual was hard to follow.
Louis XIV, an 8-year-old BO rooster, had some Kelly green poop in his corner this morning. It was really bright green!
He does seem a little thinner. And also a little “down,” although he just lost his 9-year-old mate this week, so that may have something to do with it.
We feed them Layena...
39 and counting! I have all ages since the babes started hatching in June and the last batch are on the way, probably early Sept.
They are gorgeous and I hate sending them to the butcher. I mean, they're delicious but have other uses as well--such as egg production (tasty!) and insect control...
In January, my in-laws moved to BC. Dad has Alzheimers and was getting to be too much for Mom to cope with by herself (they are 87). Before we packed them up for the move from ON (their home for 40 years) to BC to be near my husband's older brother, Mom wanted to visit our son in prison in...
I adopted an Australorp years ago that was a first for me. I was told she was a hen, so I called her Josephine.
Well, one day--after she'd been on our farm long enough to get comfortable--I heard crowing from the yard. I didn't have a rooster, so I had to investigate. I had to hide and observe...
Our coop is 8X8. The door is in the SW corner. We are putting new windows in--one on the south side and one on the west.
My big question is: where should the roosts and nest boxes be?
For 10 years, the roost has stretched from east to west about 4' from the floor and 2' from the north wall...
My sweet NHR Bianca passed away in March at the age of 10.
She was the last member of my first batch of chicks. They arrived a day early--April Fools Day!--in the midst of a snowstorm. I was a brand-new chicken mom and was thrilled and a little scared by my new responsibility.
By late...
Help! I have 2 mated pairs of Muscovies, plus 2 single ducks. They are all laying, and one is setting a nest. This is a huge problem, because I only wanted a pair of ducks for snail control (they work marvelously), but these ducks are crazy good mamas and I'm overrun!
The fee for them is...
Bianca is a 9-yr-old NHR. She has to be watched carefully for fly-strike, but otherwise is pretty healthy and a good layer. Lately, she has been walking very upright (my DH calls it goose-stepping) and her abdomen feels like a water balloon. Is this ascites? It's the closest thing I can find...
My Muscovy duck of indeterminate age (a rescue) is a baby machine! She hatched 10 ducklings in June & Thurs she hatched 13 more! We currently have 21 ducks/ducklings, and that is waayy more than we really want to have...

I had a question about an aggressive rooster (my lower legs are a mess), so I did a search and found great information.
