Nice work cody bird! An a-frame with a twist, very cool,
Stephanie for 8 birds you should be fine with 3 nests. I have 4 birds in one coop with 3 nests and they all use the same one. Others may chime in as well but I bet 3 would be just fine.
We built an a-frame run with a "hen house" attached for a grow out pen. It has done alright but when I redo the grow out pen I will make a rectangle style run. The angles are a pain but the worst part is the "dead" space in the top of the tri-angle. Plus I can't get in the run hardly at all...

As they start to lay we need to talk about getting some eggs from your whitmore group. How long did you say it would be??
Thanks again!

So good to hear from you! My wife and I could not remember your screen name and we had cleared our messages. We wanted to let you know how wonderful Rusty and the girls were doing. They have been great!! Glad you stumbled onto the thread - we will write your name down so we don't loose...
Thank you for the kind words. We got our original trio (including the Roo) from a lady in Sevierville. I am sorry I cannot remember her name. She got the eggs from Mothergoose ( http://www.freewebs.com/ritterlivestock/ ) and hatched them. We got a few more hens from pumpkinpup, who I must say...
We have a 16 week old cockeral that needs a home! We have one big Roo already and just don't think he would appreciate another moving in on his girls! lol We would like to get $8 for him - his feathers are starting to change and getting some nice color already. Hard to capture the color in his...

We love our welsummers. The hens are talkative but very sweet. The Roo's are stunning and ours has a nice crow ever morning. We have eggs like the one posted above nice and consistant with their color. Ours do lay well. We have been getting 5 eggs a week from our girls. They are our...
Trying to help a friend locate some more RIR for his mixed flock. Just curious if anyone local had any. We are going to try to local Amish sale this saturday but looking for a backup plan as they may not have any. He would prefer them be close to laying age. We are in Cleveland TN

Thank for all the great info everyone. I had never thought about not using dividers. Will have to think about that....surer would make building easier. This will be an external box mounted to the side of the building and yes it will be bout 24" off the ground.
Thanks again for all the great...
How deep (front to back) should I make my nesting boxes for standard sized birds?? We have welsummers, buff orps, BR, EE, etc. I was thinking about 10" wide and 10"-12" deep. If you think 12" deep would be overkill then I will save on the wood. I have found plenty of pics but just no...
