    Weather question

I've never heard of that splash catcher, but I'll look for one. The heat lamp will be far enough away from the bedding so no fire risk. Yes the shed is safe. We kept the other ducks in there until they were big enough to join the chickens last summer. I set up the box outside in the shed...

    Weather question

The waterer is one that has a jar and a plastic red bottom that curves up. I placed the waterer inside of a larger shallow bowl to help catch some of the "spillage" as they drink. I just can't believe how smelly these two are. I have 1 mallard and 1 Peking. We have had several ducks before but...

    Weather question

I am using pine shavings and a waterer just like I use for our other duc. Usually it is warmer this time of year. If I put the heat lamp up do you think they will be warm enough? I could put my big duck in with them cause they have bonded well.

    Weather question

I have 2 ducklings that are around 4 weeks old now. This is the first time I have gotten ducklings during cold weather. Right now they are in my bathroom but even changing there bedding everyday they are stinking our bathroom to high heavens. The current weather for our area, southern maryland...

    Mini Duck eggs

Anything is possible. I plan to get more ducklings and chickens as soon as the weather gets a little warmer here. More than likely from the same people so I am going to ask them what breeds they have and then try to piece together what she might be, or what mixes she might be!

    Mixing Ducks with Chickens

My ducks and chickens get along fine, except for one chicken she likes to chase the ducks. Ducks are a lot more messy then the chickens and make everything wet. They do need some space of their "own" for swimming since chickens don't swim. I have a large hard plastic kiddie pool at one end of...

    Mini Duck eggs

Thanks, I like her too! I just wish I knew what she is. I got her from a local Amish family and they weren't sure which ducklings were from which nest. I had another one but he was killed by something a few months ago. My sister jokes that she is some new breed, she calls her a "goose-duck". lol

    Mini Duck eggs

Question ... I have no idea what breed of duck we have. She is white and brown with orange feet. She started laying eggs 4 days ago and her eggs are about half the size of a chicken egg. Is this normal? Is there a breed of duck that lays small eggs? I haven't found anything on the internet yet...

    Mean chicken?

Long story short we have one chicken and one duck left. Recently the chicken has been attacking the duck. Since we got the duck the chicken has chased her but recently the chicken started pecking at her and now is pecking hard enough to pull out feathers. We have had the chicken since April and...

    duck question

So I have another duck question. I have 2 ducklings that are about 4 weeks old now. I have yet to figure out what breed of duck they are, still waiting for the "grown-up" feathers to finish coming in. I am pretty sure one is female because it is starting to quack. The other is still peeping...

    duck breed?

Thanks everyone! I will just ask again when their "grown-up" feathers come in if I still can't figure it out. I am positive that one is female cause she is starting to quack.
