    Broodie silkie hatched a duckling!!

I tried doing a video, but it was too dark. Will try later with better lighting. Chuck is eating and drinking great! I candled a couple of eggs and they looked good, so I'll see if they can hatch a playmate for Chuck. My ducks have laid a few eggs in a nest, but I never see them on it. One of...

    Broodie silkie hatched a duckling!!

My silkies have been broodie for awhile, so I let them sit on some duck eggs since my ducks haven't seemed to want to. Anyway, today I looked under her and a little body pops out! They seem perfectly happy together. Should I take it out and put it in its own place with a warming light or wait...

    Bloated silkie! Help!

I learned via "Russian chicken" that the mites my chickens have are "De-Pluming" mites. There are super tiny, hard to see without a magnifying glass. The dust doesn't work well with them because they are so tiny. I have been battling them with CV-80D spray both in the coop and on the birds...

    Bloated silkie! Help!

This is TOO weird...as I fed the chickens in the coop today, I noticed one of the other Silkies getting picked on by the big girls as usual and I thought "Hmmmm, maybe she should inside for awhile and get some r &r with sister. SO, I brought her in and low and behold this afternoon they are...

    Bloated silkie! Help!

I have considered opening her up to empty out her crop in case there is a blockage of some sort in there. If it's a muscle issue that won't help tho. What are your thoughts? It's been over 2 weeks now. I can't continue tube feeding indefinitely.:/

    Bloated silkie! Help!

The same, no worse No better. Her crop stays bloated looking. I don't know if any food is going through since she's not pooping. I may call a vet today and see if they will give me some info over the phone. I tried binding her crop up in case it had dropped so low food couldn't make it into the...

    Bloated silkie! Help!

My poor bird I still bloated. I fed her last night and This morning her crop was still full. I am thinking be her muscles have been compromised and the whole crop has dropped like a Vagina after 10 kids or a hernia perhaps. I tried a sling made out of pet ace bandage to pull her crop up so...

UPDATE - Silkie with micro mite infestation! Irritated eyes and head feather loss.

What do you use for a wormer? You have been so informative! I appreciate that! You know what a pain in the butt it is to get answers for these off the wall ailments we deal with. I have had chickens for four years now and this is the first I've had to deal with any of this stuff. Thanks again.

    Chickens Vs Ducks

+1 I am torn. Ducks are fun, but messy. Do you keep your duck and chickens together? Are they outside in the winter? It's been so cold this year, I have kept them all (5Swedish Blues and 8 chickens, 5 Silkies) all in 1 coop. It's been a bear keeping up with the ducks water mess. I need a...

UPDATE - Silkie with micro mite infestation! Irritated eyes and head feather loss.

OK I'm going to try that. The can has so many disclaimers on the back I got a bit leery. Don't get it on your skin, don't spray when animals are present... It was helpful that you said to spray directly on or near their vent because when I did I realized what I ha thought was dirt was...
