Yet another Mareks Disease topic.....hen unable to walk

So I have a 4.5 month old barred rock hen that just started laying a week ago. Over the weekend I noticed she was limping a little but I couldn't see any visible injuries and she didn't do it with enough consistency to tell which foot was worse. The limp persisted and got worse. Tuesday when I...

    Egg hunt around here:

Quote: I leave my eggs unwashed and stored on the countertop, in the winter that means room temps between 55-60F(I like it could and I like my lower utility bills), during the summer that means ~75 overall temp. I've eaten eggs that were at those temps that were up to 6 weeks old, they...

    Egg hunt around here:

ok so one of the chickens, the first one to start laying, had decided to no longer lay in the nesting box, and found some random place in the yard to hide eggs. Well I had been pulling my hair out trying to find it, turns out it was in a fairly simply place, behind a radiator in the corner of...

    Egg!

Quote: About 21 weeks for the first one to lay. 2 of the other 3 BSL's are very close to start laying, full comb, squatting, haven't seen them checking out the nesting box yet, but they should be pretty close behind. 1 of the EE's seems like she is very close to laying, the other two its...

    Egg!

well, I got another egg today! I didn't get one yesterday, though it seemed like she was hanging out under one of the cars like she was nesting, and I'm pretty sure I heard the egg song at one point yesterday.....wondering if she is already playing hide the egg with me. Well today I noticed...

Awesome new camera, so lots of pics.

Quote: A Canon-EOS Rebel T2i 18.0-Megapixel Digital SLR. I had a Canon Rebel 35mm that was a few years old so I already had a couple of lenses. We bought the body only. Nice, I just upgraded from a Digital Rebel(300D) to a T1i(500d), like you I had a 35mm before that so I had lenses I was...

    Egg!

Well one of the black sex links was checking out the nesting box today, and then was checking out some other places, even went and crawled up under one of my parts cars and was hanging out under there. Went back with a flashlight an hour later to see if she laid an egg, no dice, decided to...

    Square footage rules

Here the requirement is 2 square feet per bird in the coop. Not saying that is enough, its just what the requirement is.

Remember the "Who's clipping tail feathers." posts?

I like glue traps, disposable and less hassle than rebaiting the victor traps. Plus, I have no emotional or moral misgivings about using glue traps. Diseased rodents than need to be disposed of.

NEW PHOTOS ADDED---Melbourne the Australorp's Newest Adventure!

Quote: It seems that way. When she's not broody, it's non-stop egg laying. She's the only Australorp I have, but if they're all like her, I'd definitely recommend the breed to anyone. Mine was the same way, egg machine. Laid eggs every day for 9 months untill she tried to go broody, luckily...

    Snow day:

Well, we got a good amount of snow yesterday, about a foot to 18 inches of the heavy wet snow. Let the chickens out this morning, if it were not for the food they would have not dared to go out into the evil white stuff.(their feeders also wound up buried somewhere!) Plus some vids:

    Chicken Dance?

So I was wondering what you guys would call this, I've noticed that when you expose hens to a new situation, they tend to do the "chicken dance" as I call it as part of establishing a pecking order. So I have a new batch of chickens, they have been outside now for a few weeks confined to the...
