The dog attack was really, really bad. She disappeared, and I was sure she was dead. We looked all over for her, then about 6 hours later, my son found her limping around in the front yard. We took her inside, and she was bleeding really badly. I have no idea how she survived the blood loss. She had a flap of skin completely open from the bottom of her leg, around her thigh and around the front of her. My son held her while I stitched her up. I covered her wounds with neosporin and kept her inside. After a few days, I brought in her best buddy, an orpington, to stay in the cage with her, and her attitude perked up big time.

I'm still completely amazed at how quickly and how well she recovered.

One month after that, she started laying again. Amazing.

I can't wait until her ducklings hatch. They're cayuga duck eggs which are black ducks. She'll look at them and think...well, the color looks correct this time, but something's still not quite right.

Do I have pictures!!!???

Here she is with her "chicks." I gotta admit, she looked totally confused when they first came out of the eggs, but make no mistake about it, she's extremely protective of her ducklings.

This one loves to tug on her waddles. She takes constant abuse from him.

And then...well, we decided to mix things up even more. It's chick days at TSC, so we picked up three, and Mel adopted them as well.

Gotta admit, they're a pretty diverse family. :)
