"I have a feeling that most of the geese there are male, though the only ones I know for sure are the Chinese ones. "
I have come across three public parks where people have dropped off geese now, and at every one there were mostly Chinese ganders. I came to the conclusion that people drop...
Depends. If you don't mind the noise, the best thing to do is get some females. He needs at least one, and better yet three girlfriends. I have a pair of Chinese myself, and I''m thinking about getting the big guy a Christmas present. Actually two, or maybe even three.
I will probably be...
Sorry to hear about your goose. If you get another, a good pen is in order.
Not to hijack the thread, but this afternoon there was a commotion out back, and since the geese don't usually fuss too much during the day, I went out to see what was up.
My gander was in full fighting mode and...
I must have the only geese on the planet that don't like treats. Only thing they ever want is duck and goose mix and whatever they forage. I have tried just about every type of fruit I eat and nothing. They didn't even like it when I tried feed from a different mill. I ended up going back...

A swirl filter would keep the water moving and remove any particulate matter -- they're pretty cheap to knock together and a small pump doesn't cost much to run.
I assume I can find some good plans on teh interwebs, so thanks for the info!

Interesting. When I saw the photo, I looked at the pale beak and webbing and realized that Canadas are all black in those areas, so the first thing that came to mind was that it was an albino.

We have been wanting to get a nice stock pond for ours, but the stumbling block is how to keep from emptying it and re-filling it with several hundred gallons of water once a week or so. I have looked at some pool vacuum systems and they would seem to do the trick, but the price is...
My Chinese pair have had free run of the yard for three years now, both at our old home and at our new one, and only once have we ever had an attack, and that was by the neighbors neurotic dog. Like you we have a roofed dog kennel for them, and we keep their food and nesting area inside it, but...

Thankfully, with the wet winter and spring we had here in Texas that's not a problem. Up north of me, where these guys are at it should be pretty lush right now. I know mine are loving it, just wandering around eating whenever they want.

I can try and get a few pictures of them. I havent seen them myself. I ran into her at the post office and she was telling me about them. What will the corn do to them? I told her she needed to call around and see if anyone is willing to take them, people who already have ducks and...
Good idea. If they won't go in the pond, there's a good chance they won't go to drink and clean themselves out of it either, so better get some tubs out first thing in the morning. It's cool in Central Texas tonight, but it will back up around 95 again tomorrow.
