Wow Krista, two a day! Your flock is the same size as mine. My hens get a lot
of Kale from our garden, and I am wondering if this might have the same effect that spinach
does? I am going to cut out the kale for a while and see if that helps. If it does I will let you
know.
I'm from Marstons Mills, and must say that there are not too many breeders on Cape
Cod, but check craigslist and you can find just about anything. I found Lemon Cuckoo
Orpingtons at very reasonable prices from a lady in Derry N.H.
Hey Dankydo,
Have not been on in a while, but just saw your post. I have two LCO's and they are my
favorites. They are by far the friendliest of my little flock. I have buff brahmas and buff
orps, but the LCO's are the first to run up and greet you, and will come over and watch
you when...
Just got my second soft shell egg today, and am wondering what the cause is. The
eggs are normal sized, but the shell is soft, with a paper like feel. They don't break
open or leak, but they collapse if you squeeze it at all. The hens have access to
oyster shell every day, and eat layer feed...
I have a speckled sussex 15 weeks old who is very lethargic, and also seems to have a
crustiness around her eyes, so they appear half open at times. When I take her out of the
coop, she wants to sit in my lap and sleep, or will just nod off standing up. Any ideas or
remedies would be welcome!
Thanks Kelly, those photos (and site!) are great. I also loved the photos of the deer and turkeys, as I have a home in
Sugar Hill N.H. and we get both all the time. I cant imagine what my chickens will make out of them when they get bigger and
go out!
I have one pair of buff orpington and another of speckled sussex, and I am concerned because they are very ragged in
appearance at two weeks of age. They are lively and growing, but look nothing like the fluffy babies of a week or so ago.
These are my first chicks, so I just dont know what to...
Thanks for all the great info. I will have to get out and ask some knowledgeable folks at TSC and Agway etc. I have a feeling I may end up
going through Meyers or someone like them who will ship a small amount of chicks. There is a local poultry club that meets once a month,
and I plan to go...
Thanks for the info "kacklinkelly", I will definately ask if a calendar is available. On my last stop
at Tractor supply I asked a young lady what type of chicks they carry, and she said "the fluffy
yellow ones". Oh well, live and learn.
In the spring I plan to start raising a small flock ( 6 or so) of chicks, and will probably look
to a Tractor supply or feed store for so small an amount. I am curious as to what types of
chicks these places usually carry. Any chance they would have buff orpingtons?
Just joined today, after looking over the forum. I live in Mass., and at present have no chickens. My plan is to start out with
three buff orpingtons and three australorps after the holidays. I want layers that are friendly, docile, fairly quiet and not
great fliers. Since they will be pets...
