The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I had two but they were both reading the same so I moved one because I needed it for my hatcher. I kept the most precise one in the incubator and it reads 99.5-99.7 almost all of the time. It never spikes or goes above 100. ETA I have a hovabator genesis.

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Candled my remaining 3 eggs before lockdown and they were all dead. They all die like clockwork on Day 24. I think there's a nutrient issue...

Allie & Bino, the albino orpington chicks

That genetic stuff is cool! Extremely unfortunately, my flock was diagnosed with Mareks last summer. I can't hatch chickens ever again, which means Allie will never be a mother. Light doesn't seem to affect her one bit. Her run is half shaded, and I let her out every day to get a change of...

Thank you! :hugs Well, large fowl ducks are easier to vent sex because they have bigger vents. Call ducks have teeny tiny vents so it's not impossible but it's very very hard so I don't even try. I just name them girl names and hope they're girls, which is an extremely bad strategy.

Who set duck eggs for the Easter HAL? I set 6 call duck eggs ETA I ALMOST FORGOT We had a singleton hatch earlier this week! There were 3 alive at lockdown, but only 1 hatched. I named her Tulip. Her mom is a chicken, since we happened to have a broody.

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I SET 6 CALL DUCK EGGS yesterday for the hatch a long. My girls aren't laying well right now, and I could only get six eggs over the course of two weeks. I also have an egg eater, so who knows how many are being laid. Kind of a bummer, but oh well.

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Hm, no special secret in particular, I can tell you that I *DONT* rotate my eggs back and forth while I store them for hatching. I sit them on the kitchen counter in a carton labeled "DO NOT EAT OR REFRIGERATE" and just pop em in the bator when I'm ready. @Sally Sunshine Awe thanks! It means a...

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I will be joining, hatching call ducks No idea how many yet obviously, as many as I can collect between Valentine's Day and Feb. 29th. Just an egg collecting note: I've set eggs up to 18 days old (meaning I collected them 18 days before setting) and had healthy chicks hatch. That's the oldest...

Hey guys, anyone need a duck? I have a gorgeous grey call drake that needs to find a new home. He's the bottom of the pecking order, and one of my duck hens just died, throwing off my ratios and it means I have too many drakes. Therefore, Linny has resorted to mating with the bantam chickens I...

Hey guys! I feel so bad for being so inactive. I skim and lurk though. My bantam cochin went broody and it just so happens I have ducklings hatching next weekend... so momma will come inside and raise the babes in the garage.

That does sound sweet. While watching it on TV can never compare to seeing it in real life, it does beat being in the crowds.

Oh my gosh! You couldn't even get in the booths to shop on Saturday... It was more crowded than Disney World! Sunday was honestly great crowd-wise compared to Saturday. A woman on the shuttle bus told us that they came Saturday and they got turned away because all of the lots were full.

Forgot to mention, went to the farm show this weekend and had a blast. Saturday was so insanely busy that it wasn't even enjoyable. Sunday was so much less crowded and I got to watch my cousin win the draft horse hitch and feed scurry.

Well it's a good thing he fell into your hands! The way I look at it, if someone didn't care about him enough to let him get in that condition, they probably won't mind you treating him.
