    Backwards leg

One of our chicks sustained an injury when she was only a couple of days old. X-rays were inconclusive, but it appeared to heal by itself. About two months later, the chicks leg seemed to be turned all f a sudden, so that her foot was facing out toward the side. We brought her to a vet again...

Spraddle Leg - Splay Leg Treatment Instructions

We have been to the vet twice. He is not an expert on chickens, but is the only vet in the area that would even consider seeing her. I will take a look at the site. Thank you!

Spraddle Leg - Splay Leg Treatment Instructions

Does anyone have experience with an older chick with a splayed leg? Our chick is two months old. She had an injury when she was a few days old which seemed to heal. Now a month and a half later it seems to be splayed.

    Really early, I know....

It's definitely a dance prior to pouncing on them. The hens of course want nothing to do with him at this point. It's upsetting as he (now that we know he is a he) is the one we had become very attached to. Living where we do, having a rooster is not an option. Unlike with children, I doubt...

    Really early, I know....

At the risk of sounding naïve, I would imagine that the cute little dance he has been doing prior to jumping on the other two, isn't his new jazz moves, lol. Oh geez, what luck I have:)

    Really early, I know....

Yes, it's the same in the first and second photo. I read something in another thread about the unscientific way to tell them apart. It said if you go into a henhouse and accidentally sneeze all the pullets will run and hide, where the rooster won't really care. Yup, that's my guy right there...

    Really early, I know....

Okay, so I know it is really early...we ordered these babies, they came pre-sexed, but as youi know there is a margin of error for doing such. Two of the three chicks that were hatched on the same day look like the third picture. The first chick...well (s)he looks quite different. The three...

    New Mommy Again:)

Years ago I had a Buff Orpington ( mostly indoor) that was litter box trained (mostly), could fetch, lay down, roll over, and knew her name. She was the best dog I ever had. She layed up to three eggs a day, everyday, and was my best friend. I would open the door to the convertible, she would...

    Therapy chickens

Though I am REALLY late in seeing this thread, I am curious if someone worked with a chicken day in and day out, if they could be trained as a therapy animal. Years ago we had a Buff Orpington as a pet. She was litterbox trained, was taught to fetch, jump on command, roll over, etc. She knew...
