Hi everyone!
I have 2 isa brown hens here, which get on really well... But I'm noticing one of them can't stand being on her own. When one goes to lay, the remaining one stands at the door screeching at me for the entire time. If I sit at the door with her she will stand there quietly and clean...
Rhp after my posting above, one of my girls developed a respiratory infection that had to be treated with antibiotics (she was wheezing and struggling to breathe). So maybe limit their time in the rain. (Mine were out in it for three days straight though)
Yeah she looks like my noisy one! Mine is an isa brown and she has a really loud, hoarse voice that sounds like she's being strangled. Lol! And she sounds like she is whining all the time
I'm in Australia so it's actually getting colder for me. Lately though I have noticed that the are screeching more. But that could be because they are spoilt little brats. Lol!! (They are my only babies and I treat them like my babies)
My situation is exactly the same as yours. I let them out at 6am and lock them away again at 7.45 when I leave for work... I usually lie in bed for a while after I let them out and oe of my hens just stands at the door squawking madly at me. lol.. She really likes my company and whenever I leave...
I have two isa brown hens. We fud one and then bought another for company for her. They generally get along quite well and follow each other all over the place. Until bed time... My dominant hen (the first one we had) wont let the other one sleep in the "bedroom". If she gets in there first, the...
Thanks guys! I have noticed a couple of little bum fluff feathers floating around but nothing else. Hopefully that's all it is. I didn't realise they moulted! Lol. As long as she's ok, then I'm fine with that :D she seems pretty happy and like her normal self
Both my hens have been giving me an egg each pretty much every day for the three months we've had them. But this week when I locked them up early one morning, I noticed a thin shell in the cage which had been eaten (I had had two eggs the previous day and hadn't seen either go to lay an egg...
Thanks Angela. They have finished their antibiotics and worming and are past the withdrawal period. The vet told me to give the eggs to someone with a dog but I can't find anyone who wants them? I know how much work they put into making them so it seems a waste to throw them.
My two chickens have been on antibiotics and worming tablets. The vet warned me not to eat the eggs. But I'm wondering if I can cook the eggs up and feed them back to the chickens, or will this just re-contaminate them and cause a longer withdrawal period?
(I know some people say they are safe...
Thank you sumi! I've just foud the egg membrane and egg white a few metres away. So I think they have definitely eaten it, but not sure if t ad a shell or not. I guess I'll wait and see what happens today :)
Ok cool, thanks! I will keep an eye on them :) I haven't noticed any weak shells or anything lately - just this sudden one. Penny does lay eggs that are a bit elongated sometimes, but she's the one who has been sick & had a shot of antibiotics ( a week ago aswell, so that could've possibly...
Hi everyone. Yet another question from me! I've come home today to find in my nesting box, one egg plus a pile of soggy yellow wood shavings. They smell like yolk and the colour is like yolk. I can't see any white and there's no shell around or even any of the membrane that I can see.
One...
Lol ok, great answers. We are renting, the house had been empty for 6 months before we moved in and I don't think the lawn was mowed at all in that time. The weeds are extremely thick, with huge roots. (I have been pulling them out after rain and some are close to impossible). Unfortunately a...
Lol thanks tdgill. I can't tile, because i'm renting. I want to put grass down for a few reasons... Weeds grow really fast... They are are to walk on and full of prickles. And it just looks awful lol... The chickens were the other thing - I thought they would like grass more, but maybe not? I...
Hi guys! My lawn is extremely overrun with weeds. Weeds take up 95% of the yard. Given that the chickens eat the grass, I assume its not safe to spray it with some type of weed killer? (Thinking about doing the while lot and then replanting grass seed). Is there a safe way to do it? Or should I...
