Can i Solely feed free range chicken with worms?

Well, where are you? (Country) Here in the U.S. there are laws as to how many square feet per bird and how much access to the outside they have to have to be "considered" "Free Range". For most people (other than the Government) Free Range means they are not confined, at all. If that is the...

How much feed will cornish x rocks eat before slaughter?

Not sure where you all live, but here in Kansas we have COOP farm stores in just about every little town around. And all of them carry feed, and it's normally close to half the price of getting it at Tractor Supply. Do a search for the closest COOP Farm store near you, I bet then will have what...

    crooked neck

Yep he eats fine, seems healthy otherwise. Also have a hen from the same bunch that is showing signs of the same thing. They are on chick starter, also are free ranging so they have access to bugs, greens, the fermented hen scratch I feed the hens. Seems unlikely it's a deficiency, but will try that

    for those brooding 100+ cornishx

How many to you brood in one area? I have lost a bunch of chicks, and the only thing I can think of is they are piling up on each other and smothering the ones on the bottom? I had two heat lamps should I have put more heat in there to spread them out? Or should I divide the brooding area into...

    when to move cornisoutside

I have about 80 Cornish cross chicks they will be 3 wks old this coming wed. I have them in an outside shed with heat lamp now, with plenty of room for them to get away from the heat if they need to. It's going to be cool this week, lows in the mid 40's tonight and tomorrow, then moving into...

for those that butcher for sale.

I have 100 Cornish X coming mid April, I just did a practice run of butchering 12 roos from my layer flock. We just used a vacuum packer to bag them for the freezer. That is really kind of expensive, what do you folks used to wrap your chickens for the freezer?

    pin feathers

That might be the problem, these are Black Australorps and they are about 5 months old, could be they are in, juvenile molt ? The ones I plan on doing later will be CornishX and be butchering at 8-10 weeks, so do you think that will make a difference?

    pin feathers

butchered 12 roos the other day, all went well, except for pin feathers. Scalded and hand plucked, feathers came off like they should but the number of pin feathers that are not sticking out of the skin is of some concern. How do you guys and gals deal with this? my wife finally just took a...

    Chick-Saver Electric Brooder

I picked up one of these at auction this weekend, can't find any information on it. Anyone have one? It's made of galvanized sheet metal, rectangle in shape, about 4'x3' slopped on both sides and closed on the gable ends, standing on short legs about 4" off the ground, with a light socket on the...
