    7.5 week old polish/creveocoeur sexes?

These two are about 7.5 weeks old, I bought them straight run. Still not sure about their genders yet, could go either way. You can see their size in comparison to the wheaten maran pullet, they're both smaller than her, especially the SLP. I know it might still be too early but any guesses??

5 week french wheaten maran, polish, and crevecoeur genders?

I have a French wheaten maran "pullet", a silver laced polish, and a Crevecoeur (both straight run). All three are 5 weeks old. The French wheaten maran pullet seems to be the right color for a girl, with only very little black, but it looks like she's already getting color in her wattles. I...

What color is this polish chick? (Creveocoeur?)

I got her (I'm hoping "her") from the assorted polish/crested bin at Wilco. She's mostly black with a white belly and some spotty gray/bluish. She's not a mottled houdan cuz there's not enough white and only 4 toes. Her wing feathers are some white some black, her feet a mix of white and black...

POST PICS OF WHITING TRUE BLUES

So I bought a 5 week old whiting true blue today from a lady who gets them from Murray McMurray and she basically looks like a brown leghorn with a pea comb and more of a salmon chest almost. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. I didn't have much options as far as color goes, but I know they come...

Number of hens to coop/run size ratio?

I have a rabbit hutch I turned into a chicken tractor that I call "the Tank". I made it to keep predators out and so I could easily move it to new patches of grass in the yard. The coop part is raised about three feet and is 3'x6' (18ftsq) with the underneath of it fenced off as part of the run...

What should I name my pullet trio?

Well I caved in and bought three 4 week old pullets today after not having any chickens for almost... a year? Almost 2 years? I can't even remember... but I got a red sex-link, a barred rock, and I believe a partridge rock. I don't have any pictures yet, but I'm wondering if y'all have any ideas...

Getting new flock soon, any breed recommendations?

Recently finished securing my chicken coop/hutch/tractor after raccoons killed my last flock. I'm thinking about getting about 4 or 5 pullets soon (probably just 4 for now and an ornamental hen for fun) but am not sure what I should get. My only preferences are that I have diversity between the...

What killed my brooding silkie hen?

I had a silkie hen raising 5 chicks and I came home to see her ripped apart laying on the ground by my coop. All of her chicks are completely fine though. There are no disturbances in the fence of the run and no other signs of what did it. I wanna know what could have gotten over and killed her...

12 chicks... pullets or roos? About 9 weeks

These are 12 of the 13 chicks we got for our school. 7 we hatched and 6 we bought as pullets (one is a RSL so i wont even bother). Here are the other five that we bought as pullets, who might be a bit older than the rest: 1. EE, not sure on gender 2. Deleware, im thinking rooster, but not sure...

    Are these pullets?

I'm leading a project at school to raise chickens and half of the ones we got were "pullets". Two of thm are a bit bigger than the rest and already have reddening combs. The two are a deleware and a naked neck:

    Are these the right breeds?

Got 7 chicks from the feed store abut a week ago and gave them to my broody silkie hen. I got a welsummer, leghorn, speckled sussex, light brahma, two araucanas, and sultan. She stepped on one of the araucanas and broke it's neck, and the sultan just randomly died :( What I am wondering is if...

    School hatch project! Question...

So we finally got our eggs in the incubator today! (18) we planned on doing it yesterday (monday) but couldn't because we were still trying to figure out the incubator. I wanted to do it on a Monday because then we could start lock down the friday before they hatch (day 18) and then not worry...

Need help: where should a ramp go?

This is the rabbit hutch that I'm turning into a chicken coop for our new house when we move: (I know its dirty, but I used the left half as a brooder last two springs) It's about 2.5 ft. Off the ground and I have two options: 1. Cut the legs shorter (about half), cut a door out of one side...

    possibly sick hen?

My blue Orpington hen (the biggest in my flock, bigger than my rooster even) has been acting very tired and slow today. I let them out to free range and she moaped out and went over to the dust bathing area all by herself and has been there for a couple hours. She'll get up and forage every once...

EE X Silkie cross. Egg color genetics??

I have one (maybe two, not sure yet) EE X Silkie crosses and should start laying in 1-2 months. I was wondering, how does egg color genetics work? The mother lays greenish, almost olive eggs and the father is a silkie (his sisters lay pinkish eggs) so what are the chances I will get green eggs...

Blue laced red polish project questions and discussion

Ever since I started learning about chickens (about 3 years ago) I've really liked the polish breed and the coloring of blue laced red birds. Eventually I plan on breeding to get blue laced red plolish in about 5 or 6 generations of breeding. That plan is to start with golden laced polish...

Silkie X easter egger crosses. Gender help?

Three broody hens hatched one egg each this spring within about a week of each-other. The hen that laid all three of those eggs was a bluish EE and the roo is a splash silkie. The oldest is a splash I'm thinking/hoping is a girl and I think one of the blue ones is a boy and one might be a...

Brooding silkie on EE eggs - not sure if they are forming

My blue silkie hen has been broody since at least Tuesday the 24th (I noticed when I got back from vacation) and I've kinda been letting her stay on the easter egger eggs only because I've been wanting to hatch some of their eggs with the splash silkie rooster I have. This is the third time I've...
