Last night I accidently left my chickens out in the run and they escaped through a hole in the mesh wiring. All were put back into the coop except one of my golden-sexlinks, Poppy. Poppy was killed by one of my dogs
Can anyone tell me what egg colors, egg production, and what color the chicks will be with these crosses?
Barred Rock X RIR
Barred Rock X EE
Barred Rock X Golden Sex- Link
Barred Rock X Ideal 236
Barred Rock X White Silkie
Barred Rock X Black Silkie
After months of wanting and waiting, I was finally able to bring home some Silkies! I got a black and I'm pretty sure a white. I think the white is a roo and the black is a pullet as the white is far bigger. Oh I just love them! They have already fallen asleep on my stomach twice!
I got my order from Ideal Poultry this morning. I ordered seven chicks (4 Ideal 236, 3 Golden Sex-Link) and I got TEN extra males. I need to know the breed.
Every night I have to go into the coop and put my 8 week olds and 6 week olds into the coop. They go into the coop when I refill their food and water. They just run right in like no problem at all. But when its time for bed, the rebelious kids stay out. I locked them into the coop for 4 days...
Right now I have 1 BJG roo, 1 RIR pullet, 2 EE pullets, 1 EE roo, 1 Buff Orp roo, 1 Buff Orp Pullet, and one unidentified breed pullet. I am going to sell the EEs and BJG and keep the RIR, BOs and unidentified pullet. But I don't know what breed to replace them with. I want to have 8 chickens...
I named this little guy Jerry because he was the smallest chick in the bin at the feed store. He was sold as a buff orpington but he is not. Any ideas?
I never have any luck with hatcheries. All the big hatcheries (Murray Mcmurray, Cackle, Ideal Poultry, Meyer, etc.) are all sold out of Black Australorps for months or have a 15 chick limit. I only want 8 chicks. I have looked at all local breeders and hatcheries and none of them have Black...
Right now I have 3 buff orps, 3 EEs, 1 RIR, and 1 BJG. But I got chickens for eggs and to be able to hatch eggs the natural way. I really like Black Australorps but I have 8 chicks in a 10 chicken coop. I only want one breed of chicken. If I can get some BAs, I want to keep my RIR and this one...
So after months of planning and about a month of building, the coop is complete! There is still a bit of fine tuning we have to do but the chicks are in! Two 6 week olds and six 4 week olds!
I moved my little fuzzbutts into the coop today! I need to know the genders so I can figure out what I want to do. The RIR and BJG are 6 weeks old and the 3 Buff Orps and 3 Ameraucaunas are 4 weeks old.

BJG:
Buff Orp 1:
Buff Orp 2:
Buff Orp 3:

I will be moving two of my chicks into the coop today. The RIR and BJG are 6 weeks old today. They have been living with 6 other chicks, 3 Ameraucaunas, and 3 buff orps. The Ameraucaunas will be moving in too as they have a lot more feathers then the buff orps who will be moving in next week. My...
I finished my coop today and am ready to move Rufus and Oreo who are 5 weeks old into the coop. But I have a question about the 3 buff orps and 3 Ameraucaunas that are 3 weeks old. Are they ready to be moved into the coop? The Ameraucaunas have a lot of feathers but the buff orps are still...
So right now I have 8 chicks. I don't know the gender of any of them. Two are 4 weeks old and 6 are 2 weeks old. I am almost finished building my coop that will hold about 10 chickens. I mainly wanted to get chickens for eggs which means no roos for a while until I'm ready. I have 3 buff orps, 3...
Ok, I have 8 chicks right now. 3 Buff Orps, 2 Ameraucaunas, 1 EE, 1 RIR, and 1 Black Jersey Giant. My local feed store has barred rocks in and I want to get 1 or 2 but my family isn't down with it. The RIR and BJG are 4 weeks old and the other 6 are 2 weeks old. We are almost done building the...
After repeated strokes of bad luck, I decided to check out my local feed store for chicks. I stopped by and picked up 3 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Americaunas! I used a big metal trough I had out in the barn.

I decided to put 2 week old Rufus...
I was out of town for the last week and my grandparents took care of Rufus and Oreo. When I returned today, they both had received so many feathers! They are both starting to receive their crests. I'm so happy! Five silkies should be arriving tomorrow!
What do you all do with your extra roos that you can't keep? I will be receiving 5 silkies on Thurs. or Fri. I already have a RIR and a BJG. I want to have chicks from them but I want to only have 1or 2 roos. What should I do?
