First off, I live in Snohomish WA just outside Monroe (urban but sort of not). I got a phone call today that my jersey giant, giant cochin (who is actually a friends chicken) and silkie were killed by the neighbors dog. My two buffs and Amerucana are missing and presumed dead. My friend who...
They are about six months old and even when they were chicks they would run when being held. Maybe I was doing something wrong? I'll try the bowl of treats method, thanks. :)
I have six chickens who come running up to the fence whenever I come out to see them, but when I get into their run the run away from me. Is there a way to get them to come up to me so I can touch them/pick them up without playing the 'catch me' game? I had a buff last year I could just pick up...
I came home from work yesterday and took a good look at my chickens, I had been on vacation so I hadn't looked too closely at them until yesterday. This one's combs and waddles and way bigger than any buff I've ever had and it's butt looks a bit different to me. None of my hens are laying yet...
We're not allowed a rooster sadly. I knew going into it that the Cochin was going to be big but that's perfectly fine with me! My theory was that with two big chickens, some animals might be less inclined to do anything to my chickens.
Last year I lost my flock of three hens, my buff Chocobo was killed by a dog that my mother beat near to death with a shovel to get out of yard (it was hunting another one); my White Laced Wyandotte Matilda went missing (I have a theory that involves the neighbors) and my blue Wyandotte we gave...
Thanks! I will definitely ready up on that. We do keep the coop clean but sometimes we just can't get out there due to work schedules and the days getting shorter. I think my only problem would be getting out of the shower and seeing a chicken staring at me through the window! :D
So with the rain season pretty much right upon us I was thinking of moving my coop so my hens have some dry places to hang out when it rains and they are not stuck in the coop in all day. The only thing is, the best place to move them is right next to the house! I don't mind them being there and...
Mine is because when I was younger my sister and I were writing a book and Tsuya was my characters name. We never finished the story but wrote over half it; maybe I'll go back and finish it some day.
Thanks,

Hi Nambroth, Could you possible post links to the videos please? The computer I'm on doesn't like to show embed videos but will play them from YouTube directly. Thanks!
So over the weekend I had some spare time and I decided to clean up my grandmothers old sewing machine. As I removed the (copious) amounts of dust the machine had gathered I noticed a patent date on the front, Sept '87. At first I was thinking, "The machines not that young!" followed immediately...
Found this last when I got home in the roost around 6pm, was still warm. It was like it was looking up at me with rays beaming around it and I was in an excellent mood for the rest of the day! (actually I was dreaming about eggs and chickens all night too...)
Pretty sure this is the one that...
Ruru your place sounds like mine! With how much they like to dig I might decide to put them somewhere else just to keep them safe as I found a lot of sharp nails and rusted bits that I don't want the geese getting into. I have plenty of space. ;P
