Why do my babies crouch and open their wings?

They are Buff Orpintons. They have room at the other end of the container but haven't tried to get out from under the light. But I raised the light a little higher up to see if it makes a difference. They are not panting.

Why do my babies crouch and open their wings?

My chicks have started a new behavior and I'm curious if it is normal. They crouch and spread their wings. Not necessarily huddled together either. It's almost as if they are "sunning" under their lamp. Is this normal? should I be concerned?

I think the panting is a "South Texas heat" thing. It is funny that she started it right after she laid the egg though.

    First Egg Countdown

Went to check on the chicks this afternoon and look what I found... I didn't want to spook her so I gave her some privacy to finish the task. But I can't wait to see the first egg!!!!! Here it is... I left her alone but when I came back she came running to me as if to say, "Have you...

I know one is a Barred Rock. After looking up other pictures, I am now pretty sure one is a Blue Andalusian. I wouldn't have had a clue about her but that you guys guessed that. THANKS! The one that looks like a Wellsummer has white ears. And my understanding is that means she is NOT a...

HELP automatic watering cups are not working!

Thanks everyone! I was just nervous because we do live in a very hot climate. I will be more patient. I don't think they are dehydrated. I just couldn't figure out why the cups always looks almost empty. I guess that is the way they are supposed to look now that I've read your responses. Thanks...

HELP automatic watering cups are not working!

Here is what I have. I bought them on ebay and then set up the system. The water is fed by gravity from a bucket. Leaking is not my problem. Filling the cups is the problem. I manually feed water into a 5 gallon drum and that feeds by gravity into a hose that is attached to the pvc pipe...

When should I introduce a nesting box?

Here is a picture of the inside of my small coop. I have 3 chickens. In the picture they are a few weeks old but now they are 9 weeks old. I have 2 nesting boxes that I temporarily covered the opening so they wouldn't get in there too early. I don't even know if that was a good idea. It just...

8 weeks old now, what is your guess about the breeds of these three?

Yep, her ears are white as best I can tell. I was hoping for a Wellsummer because of the egg color. But it sure looks like white ears. Thanks, for the insight.
