Are Muscovies really superior for fly control or would Khaki Campbells be nearly are effective. I would like to try a few ducks for fly control but if there is not too much difference in their fly controling abilities I'd prefer a breed that would given me more eggs. Thanks.

What breed is the most non aggressive with each other?

While I do like getting a fair amount of eggs and having a flock of good foragers, when it comes right down to it the most important thing to me is finding a large fowl breed that is as non aggressive with each other as possible. Please share your opinions and experiences. Thanks! FYI: My...

what are the names of your chickens?

I have only two hens because two is all my city allows me to have legally. My two hens are both RIR's. They are named after fonts/typefaces: Optima and Helvetica.

    making home-made feed

Oh, but one more thing: If you go with whole grain feed you want to transition them slowly to give their gizzards time to get conditioned.

    making home-made feed

Nope, you don't need to cook anything. They are able to eat all those hard raw grains and legumes; their gizzards "grind" them up----- just be sure they have access to plenty of grit.

    making home-made feed

I'm definitely moving in the direction of homemade whole grain layer feed and Greener Pastures' recipe is the one I'm most likely to end up using. The only question I have is about the sodium content. I know chickens are not supposed to have much sodium in their diets but as far as I can see...

If Ivermectin is used externally, is it OK to eat the eggs from the hens being treated? If not, how long is the waiting period?

Which breeds are less likely to become internal layers?

First, thanks for the welcome, Chickalator! Second, I just realized I used the terms internal layer and egg bound as if they are interchangeable. I now realize I don't even know if they are the same thing or not. I guess I need to be schooled up on that, too. Thanks again!
