Besides trying to keep it clean with an antibiotic spray I bought at TSC
is there anything else I should be doing?
Her behavior is normal, she's eating, and drinking water and generally acting
normal. I am just wondering if there is an ointment I should put on the wound
to protect from flies...
One of my 3 week old barred rock chicks feel out of the cage to the
cement floor below two days ago-about a two foot fall :(
Now this is what I see:
I think it received internal injury. I suppose there is no hope for this little guy.
It is acting lethargic and not eating or drinking...
Anyone,
Take a look at these pictures I have posted. They are pictures of chicken poop that I cleaned
out of the chicken coop the other morning. Odd looking to me but maybe one of you out there
in chicken world will recognize this image. I am really really hoping you won't say what I suspect.
Good day All
I am entering my first Winter with 6 laying hens. I am beginning to think of how to keep their water de-iced when we are in the dead of cold weather. I don't have power at their coop. Here are my thoughts:
I want to be able to hang the waterer outside. I don't have enough room...
Hi All just want to share some interesting info
I was looking through my emails and saw this info from GRIT magazine and is based on Homesteading.
It regards an event taking place in Freeport, ME on Raising your own roasting chickens.
What I want to know is if anyone from Massachusetts knows...
First time I've ever been so close to them! One ran away in the woods the other climbed a tree and looked right down at me.
I think it was actually chasing my neighbors cat, which she ran into my basement (or maybe had been there the whole time...not sure). My dog chased something bigger away...
Hey out there
I've got 7 week old chicks that are still in their kennel cage cuz I'm not quite done with their coop and pen. Soon hopefully!
My question is they have a brooder light on still although they def don't need it for warmth. I actually think they may be too hot down in my basement...
the pictures are a little out of order..
but this is what we got using the Purina plan from a link that was posted.
roost poles

can't see them too well but these are the roost...
We are pretty close to being done with our coop. I need to cover the floor of the coop to protect the wood.
Some ideas I have heard are:
Linoleum
Rhino liner (spray on covering)
A rubber stall mat cut to size
Your opinion counts!
I (my hubby) have built that Purina coop so it is roughly 4x4...
I have 6 chicks in a dog kennel, its size is 2'x3'x2' 3". I know it will be ok for now, but they are growing fast.
Check my thinking.
I plan to keep them in this cage for about 6 weeks I hope. But if they start getting
aggressive with each other I will move 3 out of this cage into another cage...
I have 6 almost 3 week old chicks and want to know if I can start feeding meal worms as a treat to socialize the babies. I have been doing this with their regular feed already but want to try something new.
Also I want to know when is it ok to start feeding a little grit now and then.
I also...
I am new to raising chickens. So far the 3 Rhode Island Reds and 3 Sex Links are doing ok. I've looked at them so much that I don't see them getting bigger.
